VPX11 - Video Settings Default to Interlaced - Consequences

browj2 wrote on 11/5/2019, 12:43 PM

This problem has come up before but without a solution. In VPX, video settings for NTSC HDTV only has interlaced for 1080. I tried selecting NTSC 16:9 (720x480; 29.97fps) and then changing width and height to 1920 x 1080. "Use settings as presets for new movies" is checked by default. Saved a project. Closed VPX, opened it and it comes back with NTSC HDTV 1080i for a new project. No way to get it to p.

One of the consequences of the project being interlaced is that when exporting to mxv (Magix format), Interlace is automatically set to Bottom field first. I don't want an interlaced export from a progressive project and if I don't notice this, I'll get an interlaced mxv file.

If I do as indicated above, select the 720x480 then change it to 1920x1080, the export settings show Progressive. If I save, exit, reopen VPX and the project, the project is progressive. Great. However, if I now open a new project without exiting VPX, the new project will have NTSC HDTV 1080i as the setting. I want the default to be progressive, 1920x1080 all of the time.

Has anyone found a way around this?

Hi John

Has anyone found a way around this?

Not exactly but I tried modifying an NTSC 1920x1080 24p movie template and then opening the Magix Video MXV export window and it did have the export setup as 1920 x1080 29.97 Progressive. However on closing and opening or creating a New Project before closing, it did default to an Interlaced Movie Setting Preset - but opening the dropdown list of presets and choosing the User Defined preset the project opened as Progressive with the settings of my prior project.

The logic may be that saving as a modified (user) preset puts it in a separate user preset folder (a bit like when you save and name an Export Preset and it goes in a separate folder as a .pru file instead of a .prs ) which requires the choosing of the User Defined Preset choice every time.

Not ideal but a sort of workaround.

Peter

Hi John

AFAICS the presets cannot be ovewritten, as @Scenestealer has said create your own version of the export preset , however make the name start with an underscore or one or more numbers - it will then appear at the top of the export list.

The top 4 are my most used custom presets for mp4 export.

Hi,

Thanks for taking a look and the hints. I will make a couple of my own presets for exporting.

I was looking for some way to do the same for the project settings, but I suspect that there is no way. If not, I'll add this to the wish list.

Thanks,

John CB

Hope you understood that I was referring to the Project aka Movie settings in my response but using the Export setting custom presets as an example of why it may not remember making it necessary to choose the User defined option in the Project Settings dropdown in the initial popup window.

My other reference to Export Presets was that unlike you John CB, once I had created and opened a Progressive project in the way mentioned in my earlier post, when I opened the MXV export preset that was showing Progressive.

Another thing that comes to mind is - apart from the characteristics automatically carrying over to the export presets - does VPX really care whether the project is P or I in terms of the edit process?

Hi Peter

. . . . Hope you understood that I was referring to the Project aka Movie settings in my response . . . .

Perhaps I should have made the first part of my sentence more clear that I was referring to the project presets.

Like the export presets many they are set in stone.
