Hi,
VPX13 v. 19.0.2.150
As you can see from my signature, I have what I consider to be a very high-end machine.
Using the same 1920x1080 video clips that I have been using for my examples and tutorials for years now, I can easily get VPX13 (and MEP2022) to sputter and stutter, with very slow export times with glitches in the exports.
My videos and project settings are all 1920x1080.
Video settings:
- Import: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060
- Processing: Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630 (when I have a problem, I switch to NVIDIA and back)
- Export: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060
This morning, I dragged in 2 short video clips to the timeline in a new project, pressed play. The videos played fine but the first time, the playback marker sputtered along, stopping then jumping, stopping, jumping. That should not happen, never, ever. If my computer can't play back a simple video clip smoothly, none can.
The second time through, the playback marker did much better. It should playback smoothly the first time.
I put a 2 second cross-fade on the 2 clips and automatic playback stuttered quickly across the cross-fade, the first time. Second time, smooth.
Here is where the real problems start.
I put a template title on the first clip at the beginning that has a video clip embedded in it, like "Captions basic - Amazing." Playback sputters and stutters, even the second time. Only preview rendering solves this.
Remove the title template, put an intro on the first video clip, "Intros/Outros Basic - Flares(intro)" and playback stutters and sputters along, at least the first time, then it may play back smoothly.
Back to the titles for a deeper test. I put in one that was purchased from Magix, Nature Collection - Brush Stroke Intro. Playback stutters and sputters. Export to the Magix template MP4 FullHD 1920x1080 29.97p with no changes, movie time 14:16, export time 34 seconds, mostly just trying to render the template title, then it goes fast. The first couple of times, there were glitches or full-screen flashes during the title part, which is why I noticed this. I haven't been able to reproduce these glitches in an export since then.
To see if it's just the 25fps video clips from Magix, 2017_Intro_17 Alpha.mp4 and 2017_Intro_17.mp4, I exported each to mxv using 29.97fps for the export, no changes to the mxv export template. I created a new movie, same video clip, just used the title itself without the mp4 files that were replaced by my mxv files. Playback was still stuttering. Export time for 14:16 timeline was now 26 seconds. My old computer could do this at the same speed using VPX12.
I changed Program Settings Export to Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630, exporting the movies took 28 and 19 seconds, respectively, a slight improvement,
My 2-screen setup:
4K screen:
FullHD screen:
I tried the default view on the 1920x1080 screen and I got a slightly smoother playback, but still with some stuttering on both movies.
Default view:
The other day, I added a simple title to a clip and the associated video clip went black. I switched Processing to NVIDIA, the image came back. Switched back to Intel and the image was still there. Why? This happens often, and not just to me.
I have never seen so many posts and complaints about general viewing (intermittent blank video clips), playback problems and export problems. Each time the community goes in and tries to solve the problem by switching the display settings, looking at the source video clips, etc. Users have complained over and over again that what worked in previous versions, no longer works properly in the current versions.
I believe that the problem is with the programs - VPX, MEP and PhotoStory - and that Magix really needs to look at this deeply at the new Infusion Engine 3, amongst other problems. Something is terribly wrong.
Comments?
EDIT: For reference, the 14:16s video clip with nothing else, exports in 5 to 6 seconds.
