If it's possible it will be in the program settings where you can set the program to search specific pointed to folders. I am running some Cubase VSTs inside of the Music Maker program but you may be able to switch your audio editor from the same settings section.

Try the top bar, File / Settings / Program / Folder / Audio editor, to change your audio editing program and in the same dialogue box just underneath press the Add VST plug-in path to point the program to your VSTs.

Thanks for your help. Following the path you suggest, I have an audio editor installed - musiceditor.exe but I can find no way to access it from within the programme - any thoughts?

@gordon3

Since you're running the trial version of MEP (which variant, Basic, Plus or Premium, btw) I think  the option to add VSTs may not be available!

If you have the paid for Premium version, if you go to Program Settings (shortcut Y), Folder tab, you will see the options highlighted in my screenshot below:

Clicking the first of those two entries allows you to specify one folder where your VSTs are currently stored.

EDIT: Sorry, it seems the upload of the screenshot failed, and continues to fail. No idea why!

Thank you Jeff. I am genuinely evaluating MEP. I'm a freelance writer/producer/director and have used Premiere Pro, Avid (with an operator in that case) and Davinci Resolve for work for BBC, UK Parliament, Arts Council and others but I'm always attracted to new programmes that offer to do some of the heavy lifting involved in editing to allow me to concentrate on the creative side - thus I'm enjoying taking a look.

Hi Gordon,

The Acusonus plugins should work in MEP Plus or Premium at the track level (with the Mixer), not in the basic version, and as per what CubeAce indicated.

See points 6 and 7 of my bug list here for accessing the external audio editor. This is a recurring and intermittent problem - works in one version then not in another and so on. I certainly hope that Magix gets it fixed in the next patch. The workaround is to use proxy files, then a right-click on the audio portion of a video object will have Edit in external audio editor on the list. Alternatively, do a mixdown of the audio (shortcut Shift+D) which will create a wave file. Right-click on it to get access to the external audio editor. BTW, there is a parameter in the Program settings to put audio and video on separate tracks. You should activate this. They will remain grouped, but on separate tracks. Also in the Program settings, Folders, you can identify the external audio editor that you want to use. As per my bug 7, there are some problems. SoundForge can also be used, but I haven't tested it with this version of MEPP to see if it also suffers the same bug.

With Music Editor 3, the default external editor, you can also define and use the VST plugins that you have. ME3 can also be accessed as a standalone.

You may also want to take a look at Video Pro X. There are additional features not in MEPP. The most obvious ones are: separate preview and source monitors; instruments available in the source monitor; project folder; up to 9 camera multi-track; multi-language capability; separate muting of audio and video (track level); and more.

Thanks to all who've offered advice - all helpful. I've decided not to continue with MEP after checking out the EULA which prohibits using some elements in commercial projects.

I like this forum but won't be continuing to use the programme at least for now.
