Hi Michael,

Pixelan Posterwise does some interesting things.

Below are a few quick examples. The various effects can be keyframed from within the app. You can download, install and try it. It will put a thin cross across your screen where there is an effect that will disappear if you purchase it later.

Hi

There is something similar in MEP Effects>Art Filter >Quantize used in conjunction with Blur.

@Delphi,

Good one! I presume that it is only 32bit?

@Ss,

I think that is what the other tools use, Quantize with Blur. However, Pixelan has an amazing variety of settings that can be tweaked. All or most of the settings can be key-framed from within Pixelan, which makes it much more powerful and easy to use than the basic Magix effects (with keyframes). Maybe too much, especially if you only want something once, but I like it.

@Michael,

Did you find one of these useful, or did you find something else?

This short video (exported at 1920x1080 but obviously the source material is much lower)

includes example of:

1. Quantize (without Blur), for comparison with John's Pixelan effects.

2. Dilate, which might be a starting point for experimenting with oil paint effects

3. Using external image editing software such as Corel's Painter Essentials which can simulate a variety of painting effects.

I haven't any direct experience of attempting such effects on a moving video rather than a still image. But I'd have thought the latter more satisfactory, freezing the video and fading in the effect.

P.S. Apologies for my rather crude fish effect - it was some years ago, so maybe I could do better now!
