Those are backup files, created as per whatever is in your Program settings, probably every 10 or 15 minutes. If you have a crash and the project file becomes corrupt, you can open the latest back up. They are number …_BAK0 through 9 and then repeat.
Thanks browj2, So as long as I keep a valid project, there is no longer a need to keep saving these backups? I see the good need for them while working the project but when the project is finished I was afraid I would lose data if I dumped them. Please comment and thanks so much for your quick reply.
To put the space saved by deleting the BAK files into perspective, as an example, the biggest BAK file size I have had are approx 10 MB, there are 10 BAK files maximum, this equates to ~100 MB - this is equivalent to approx 50 secs of Full HD video,1920 x 1080 @25 fps, 16 MB/s Bitrate, from a video camera.
In comparison to the size total of the video files used in a project, which can run into several gigabytes, the saving is small.
I would not advise you to delete them when archiving a project and the media used, unless you are severely restricted on storage space.
