Hi,

Check in your manual, you need a USB high speed câble or a HDMI type mini C dépend the type of capture or transfer you want.

thanks. it did come with a cable from the d5200 to usb however when using the cable the pc does not reconize the camara. won't even go into live view.

Assuming the Nikon camera has similar requirements to my Canon, have you installed the Nikon software to your computer?  I think that, without this installed, the computer may not be able to recognise your camera.
