What does " Video readers are being reinitialized" mean?

enigmabg wrote on 4/26/2015, 4:01 PM

I have recently come back to MEP 13 plus after an 18 month absence and, during an editing activity the above message appeared in the render progress line area AFTER the render had finished. The blue progress bar reappears and quickly progresses to (an estimated) 80% where it seems to stop. As soon as I move the mouse the message diappears along with the blue progress bar. The programme then reacts to mouse movements, as normal and there appears to be no background activity going on.

I have looked around the programme settings and can find nothing to help (unless I have missed it - apologies if I am wasting people`s time with this query if  there is information on the matter somewhere).

I cannot recall ever seeing this message before and don`t know if I should attempt no mouse/keyboard activity until it has finished whatever it is doing.

Any help/guidance would be much appreciated.

Hi

Do you mean MEP 13 or MEP 2013 - if MEP 2013 please refer to this version by its full name.

This will avoid confusion with earlier versions of the program which some members are still using.

. . . . " Video readers are being reinitialized" . . . .

This is normal and you will notice it more if you are working with HD video. The program is loading the appropriate codecs for the video and creating the appropriate cache files.

Note: if you put a long HD video clip on the timeline this can take a while to complete during which the program will not respond to any input.

Whoops! Sorry, I hadn`t realised until you noted it that I had put "13" - yes it is MEP Plus 2013.

This is the first time I have used the programme for 1920x1080 AVCHD files, so perhaps it hadn`t popped up before - I certainly can`t recall it.

Thanks for the clarification.

I presume that I can "do no damage" by clicking on a programme function whilst that message/progress bar is displayed.

The one frustration is the time to render "locking" the machine. Do later versions (inc 64 bit ones) perform any better or is it purely down the the power of the computer?
