When using multi-cam with a separate master audio track how can I cross-fade between tracks/cuts without losing audio sync?

I am brand new to MEP2015 Plus, however I have been using Pinnacle Studio for about 5 years.  I was trying to do manual multi-cam in Pinnacle for the last year and decided to try with MEP instead since it has an interface to see multiple tracks at the same time and select which track to use.

I am creating dance performance videos from a multi-cam shot performance with audio recorded from mixing board to a Tascam audio recorder.

All video and audio sources are a continuous 2 hour and 45 minute recording (broken up into different files due to camera file size breaks).

I have added the "stationary" video source to track 3, I added my master audio to track 4, I added a second audio file (louder recording setting same Tascam device) to channel 5, Channel 6 is where I do most of my camera movement to zoom in on specific people.

I am trying to use multi-cam mode to be able to switch between track 3 and 4 fairly frequently (5 - 10 swaps for a 6 minute shot), however I would like to default action between cameras to be a .5 - 2 second crossfade.

When I try to crossfade, by selecting the clip in Channel 1 I click on the AB icon and select crossfade, it pulls the video clips together to crossfade but then I lose that much time off the end.

I previously did this work in another piece of software by placing one video higher in the track list than the other and cutting the top video and then fading in and out of the top video.

If there is no built in way to accomplish this I should be able to do the same process by just deleting parts from channel 1 and making fade-in and fade-out directly.  The problem that I also see with this is the fade-in or fade-out when in multi-cam mode also fade the audio track which I don't want...  (I can overcome this issue by un-muting the master audio channel)

Hi,

You've thrown a lot in here. Let's start with the basics.

Look at my tutorial on multi-cam editing for VPX6 and the tutorial for MEP2015 by Magix.

When you edit in Magix, you have to carefully drag the bottom left handle to the left to make your transition, or the bottom right handle towards the right. That way nothing changes except the overlap. Make sure that you are not dragging the clip. If you drag the clip then you end up moving everything, possibly out of sync.

The audio should always be from 1 source and like I said, you have to be careful to not move any dips - left and right end extensions are not moving the clip out of position.

The editing process takes some getting used to after Pinnacle, but is actually easier, IMHO, once you know how. You see everything and you always know where you are and what the impact is - no going out to the editor just to modify the size or position of a clip on the screen.

In MEP, the bottom track is 1, whereas in other programs, the bottom track is a higher number. Thus in MEP, anything that you put on track 3, for example, will be on top of tracks 1 and 2 (PIP).

Hope this helps a bit. Let us know how you make out.

Thanks for your response, however I think I have gotten as far as the video tutorials show on multi-cam.  I have a clip with no transitions in track 1 generated using the multi-cam tool.

I created a short video clip of what I am seeing and what I would like to accomplish and what I have done before in Pinnacle.

Above is what I am seeing in MEP.

Above is a previous video I have cut together and am trying to figure out how to do in MEP. (Hopefully with multi-cam)

Not sure the integrated videos are working, so I also included links to youtube version.

Hi,

Drag the lower left or lower right handles on the video object. You were using the upper handles, which are the fade handles.

See the video:

Thank you!  That is exactly what I was looking for and what I needed to see.
