Where does a complete novice start?

I know nothing about music, other than liking it, cannot read music, I dont play any muscial instruments and have never used any music software ever. (unless you count a karaoke player LOL) So starting from a complete base of zero knowledge and armed ith Magix Music Maker Silver (from this months computer shopper download)  where would peope reccommend I start.  I really just want to mess around and find out what I can do, if I have the talent to produce anything worthwhile.

So if there is a guide out there that a 6 year old could understand it would be a good starting point for me!

Hello,

First use "Song Maker" (refer to the online documentation) which generates automaticaly a song by selecting the style, instruments, duration. On this exemple try the different functions :

for a track : solo, mute

mixer : modify pan, volume of the different tracks

In a second step you can modify the song by deleting, moving, dragging, lengthing the loop etc..

There is video on the Magix site.

Just "messing around" is a good place to start (fun and educational too).  So is reading the documentation (owner's manual) that came with the software.  Also, learning a little something about music wouldn't hurt either.  You don't necessarily need to learn to read music, but understanding intervals, harmony and rhythm would be helpful.  Wikipedia is a good place to start.  You know what you like, but wouldn't it be good to know what it is and WHY you like it?
