Where has ZOOM option gone in 2022 premium?

Peeteey wrote on 10/19/2021, 3:43 AM

Hi folks,

In the old version, 2021 I guess, in the Size, Position bit on the Effects panel, there was also a ZOOM slider so I could set the selected clip to 150% quicky and easily.

In 2022, that slider has gone. What's the quickest and easiest way to zoom into a clip now?

I used to select a clip, zoom in, drag to position and voila, all done in a matter of seconds, now I can't and it's really pissing me off.

Is there a ZOOM clip shortcut that I don't know of? Couldn't find anything in the manual.

Thanks for any help

Hi.

Reduce the monitor view size using the hamburger menu bar in the top left of the monitor preview and reduce the view to 705 or 50%. Grab a handle on the video object that has the size position applied and pull it outwards.

I must say that, even though I wasn't a generally a fan of Size/Position zooming for the Ken Burns effect, having that zoom slider was very handy at times.

If it's gone and the only option is doing what Cubace is suggesting, that is a backward step.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Hi Al.

You could always type in size changes and positioning or use a third party effect like the New blue Picture in Picture effect if you want sliders.

Greetings both,

When I first had MEP2022 I was spitting blood at everything that changed however after a little bit of practice - well playing really - resizing and zooming has become as easy as it was before with MEP 2021. Even with the "old" sliders for zooming I had to jiggle it about a bit (ooer!) to get it in the correct position (ooer again!!).

There are various ways to "do" zoom with MEP2022 but the easiest and quickest is to select the section to zoom with camera/zoom/shot then go into size/position/rotation and jiggle it about as before.

Simples (thanks to the meerkats)

Hi,

Third option, raise a ticket with Magix and tell them to put back the zoom slider with % box. While you're at it, ask them to put back the z rotation handle on the image. Magix will not move unless many people complain.

Until they do that, here is a workaround. Put a zoom on an object, like 150% - you'll have to calculate these - and save it as an effect with an appropriate name. Note the file location. It should show up under:

Templates > My Presets

Right at the very bottom. There is more that you can do and I would suggest adding the appropriate title to the ini file and an icon to go with it. A better place would be to make a copy of that and put it under the Move folder, which shows up under Effects > View/Animation and thus close at hand to the effects.

EDIT:

@me_again

Hi Andy,

The problem with Camera/Zoom shot is that you get a movement effect. If there any way to just get a static zoomed in or zoomed out without having to delete keyframes? That is, with no zooming, just the image at 200% or 50%?

Hi Andy,

I still see this as a workaround, but it's a good one.

I would still like to see the zoom slider back. One should be able to zoom in on the Size/Position/Rotation effect screen without having to zoom out of the Monitor to be able to drag the handles outwards, or without having to use Camera/Zoom shot.

Hi Nigel.

In future please don't tag on to an unrelated thread but start your own topic please.

A bit more information would be useful. How many drives, Motherboard specs, free drives capacities etc. How have you set the program up to handle the Intel HD 630? Make sure you have the latest drivers for it.

Also if I were you I would at least double the ram if you are working at resolutions of HD or higher. If you want full access of being able to cope with various effects etc an effective nvidia card (4GB Pascal architecture Direct x12 compatible and upwards preferably) would not go amiss either.

While the program will work at a base level, the more you ask it to do the more important it is to exceed the minimum specs required. That would include additional suitable fast drives for project content files and exporting to.

@CubeAce Hi, the most useful thing I use the Zoom Slider for is to adjust effects, and none of the sizing options show up when I select the effect only, w/o the video. Like for instance I like to use vignettes. In the old version, I used to ungroup the vignette from the video, then you could expand the size of the vignette using the slider so more of the center area is not affected. With this new version that is no longer possible because selecting the vignette effect only, no options are available for it in the size/position/rotation effect.

I see someone said they're working on putting the slider back. Or is there another way to affect the area of an effect.... I've held off updating because every update 'looks' fancier but is lessor than the previous version. The previous version to 2022 was incredibly laggy, seemingly because of Magix need to advertise upgrades. Now I'm regretting upgrading again because an essential tool has been removed for no apparent reason but we have these pretty icons... this is an editing software not a video game.

Please tell me there's a chance the slider comes back or if you have a suggestion as to how to adjust effects like I described, thank you

Looks like I inadvertently found a quicker way to zoom other than punching in the dimensions in the size/position/rotation panel.

I usually have my video fill the monitor, turns out, if you pull back and leave space on the left and right, or top and bottom sides of your video in the monitor, 'handles' show up that you can pull in and out to zoom. If you want to grab the top and bottom handle, then adjust your view to see the top and bottom sides. Same accordingly if you want to grab the left and right handles (white circles in screen cap)

... it's not the slider, but it's a much more hands on/intuitive way of doing what the zoom slider used to do. It works w/ the Vignettes too, You have to click the only button that shows up when you choose "apply effects" that opens up the options.

This will work for me until they bring back the slider

Hi Everyone

The 'slider' zoom function is still available in the Size, Position,Rotation dialog in MEP 2022 and VPX 13, however the method is not obvious - click and drag with the mouse either the Width or Height value - see clip below.

Hi Alwyn

. . . . Acting on a tipoff there, John . . . .

😂 - no tip off - I discovered it during some testing I was doing.

If you uncheck Combine input fields then the width/height work independant so you squash/stretch in one or other direction.

Hi John EB,

That's great. That is what most, if not all, of the value boxes do. I use dragging up and down, not left and right.

However, where is the box that tells me the percentage? That is what I'm looking for. I have objects and images that I want at a certain percentage; I don't want to have to remember width or height.

It works well combined with moving the anchor point, but there is no snapping the anchor point to a node, which would also be great.

It has gone AWOL.

. . . . . I have objects and images that I want at a certain percentage; I don't want to have to remember width or height. . . . .

This is where I would use copy/paste effect, it does not matter what the video/image resolutions or aspect ratio are, and the reposition if necessary.
