Where is Demo project folder, as described in Movie Edit Pro 2015 manual?

TrudyJR wrote on 5/16/2015, 2:39 PM

I just installed Movie Edit Pro 2015 (32bit version) and activated my license.  I don't seem to have the Demo project. (_Demo folder) which is supposed to be in My Media/Projects.  Where can I get the Demo project?  Or is this just a bug in the manual.  I am new to video editing and would really like something like this.

I am on a Windows 7 pc, 32 bit.

Hi Trudy and welcome to the Magix Community,

Did you purchase online from Magix or buy the box from a store?

Did you buy the basic version or the Plus or Premium version? It will say Plus or Premium at the top left if you did.

First, go to Help, Update online, and update to the latest patch.

Second, go to Help and see if there is an option for Free download. Click on it and you should see a screen with some things to download, including the demo. Select them all. It may take quite a while to download everything, depending on the speed of your Internet connection. It may be that the basic version doesn't have any downloads; I would like to know.

There is normally a shortcut to the demo project. Click on File, Open, select the folder and look for Demo. This should be in the default location for your Magix Projects, usually C:\your username\Documents\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro 2015 (Plus if you have it).

The actual location is under C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro 2015 where you will see a folder called _Demo. ProgramData folder may be hidden by Windows Explorer and you will have to change the options to view hidden folders or files.

Thank you browj2,

I purchased online from Magix (via Zdnet), and a have MovieEdit Pro 2015, 32 bit version.  I could not find a Demo folder. I navigated to C:ProgarmData/MAGIX/MovieEditPro 2015 32-bit version, but there is no Demo folder there.

In MyDocuments I have 2 folders: MAGIX projects and MAGIX downloads.

In Help/Update, there are no updates available.

Can I get the Demo database somewhere else?

BTW, how do you reply to an Answer?  With a new Answer?

Hi Trudy,

You say that you purchased online from Magix (via Zdnet). Did Zdnet take you to Magix.com and then you purchased it from Magix? Or did you pay Zdnet?

Did you put in your serial number P2-xxxxxxxxx and register with Magix?

You say that under Help you do not have either Update online or Free download. See the image below. Update online should at least be there.

In MyDocuments, under Magix projects, you should have another folder for MovieEdit Pro 2015. Open it and see if you have a shortcut to a Demo. However, if you did not install the Free downloads, then you probably don't have the Demo.

See the screen below to see what happens when I go for the Free download. Since I have the Premium version, I will have more than you.

Demo is first on the list.

Try posting screen shots of what you have.

Hi John,

I originated the purchase from ZDNet, but then was transferred to the Magix site for the actual purchase. I did register the product.  I don't have the PLUS version, just the Pro...As you can see the menu is different.  When I try to update, it says there is nothing to update. I definitely don't have the _Demo folder.  Is it possible the _Demo is only available with the Plus version?

Is it possible that the install files for  Movie Edit Pro 2015 32-bit does not include the _Demo project?  Is there any one who can verify this?  Is it possible to see what files are in the download?  Should I reinstall?

Problem solved.  After much back and forth with tech support in Germany--they had never seen a Help Menu item like the one on my Movie Edit Pro 2015 download--I managed to contact a human from the sales department in the U.S. In 2 minutes he came up with a plausible hypothesis and fix: Try the 2014 32-bit version, which he knew contained the extra downloads.  He didnt' have the 32 bit version of 2015 to look at, but since most people have a 64-bit machine, he wondered if it simply wasn't on the download.  I downloaded 2014 and everything is as described in the manual (which was the 2014 version anyway).  So perhaps they stopped including it in 2015.  Anyway, I'm happy now. I'm assuming that because I am such a novice, the Demo project will be a valuable resource.
