Which OS do I use?

I have MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 17 and the requirements on my original packaging say I should use XP, Vista, or 7 for a PC.

I can buy either windows 7 or windows 8.1, but I don't know which would be better or if my software will run on windows 8.I got it the year before windows 8 came out.

I have an AMD 4X processor (3.4 Ghz)

I am upgrading from a 32 bit basic vista OS to a 64 bit. (So I can use 8 GB RAM instead of 4)

I just need to know :

1) If the software will work on windows 8.1?

2) Which 64 bit windows o/s would be BETTER for the program, 7 or 8.1?

Hi

You have a Catch 22 situation here.

  1. MEP 17 is no longer supported by Magix.

  2. MEP 17 is not compatible ith Windows 8.1 - it will install but some functionality will not be available - this usually manifests itself as the DVD writer not being recognised.

  3. MEP 17 does work with Windows 7 however Microsoft support ie Service Packs has already ended, Mainstream support ends Jan 2015 and from then untili 2020 only Security fixes will be avalable.

Better to upgrade both ie Windows to 8.1 and MEP17 to MEP 2014 - the new version of MEP is faster and better than 17.

If you can upgrade only one, then I would go to Windows 7.
