While editing, audio doesn't start right away.

Azzizzi wrote on 9/4/2021, 6:12 PM

I installed a recent version of Movie Edit Pro, which I used to edit some audio yesterday and today. This issue didn't start until I started a new project today.

Unfortunately, the projects I'm working on require numerous edits.

What happens:

While editing, this happens:

I press "Play." The Playback Marker stays where it is for about two seconds, then starts moving, but with no sound for 2-3 seconds.

I press "Stop," then "Play" again. The Playback Marker moves normally, but with no sound for about two seconds, then normal sound at the point where the Playback Marker is at two seconds.

I can press "Stop," then "Play" again and it will function normally, but if I press "Stop" again or move the Playback Marker, it goes through this whole cycle again.

The program is installed a Windows 10 machine with 16GB of RAM, and as I mentioned earlier, it wasn't doing this at all yesterday or this morning. After this issue started, I closed all programs and restarted, but have continued to experience the same issue. This issue makes the program unusable.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi.

Look in your program settings whether you are using the wave driver option or not. If not change it to wave driver.

If it is on wave driver try lowering the buffer number to two.

It was on "Direct Sound." I probably made that change myself (from "Wave Driver") today at some point.

That appears to have fixed it. After changing it to "Wave Driver," no more delay!

Thank you so much for the help!

Thank you again for that help. It worked for a while, but now, it's doing it again. Do you have any other possible changes/solutions? Thanks.

Hi.

You can try reducing the number of audio buffers from the preset number of four down to two in the program setting but it may not work or be unstable.

It's beginning to sound like your computer is close to not complying to the minimum specs or you are editing footage that is pushing the machine close to malfunctioning.

It would help to know the complete machine specs as asked for in the sticky threads at the top of the forum page for video. Without that information we guess at answers that may not be optimum for a given system or problem.

End up asking more questions that we need to and leave people waiting longer for a fix if a fix is possible.

Ray.

I don't see the stick you're talking about (and I did look for it). However, these are the specs:

OS: Windows 10

RAM: 16GB

Processor: Intel i5 8th Gen

Video: Intel UHD Graphics 620

Audio: Realtek

@Azzizzi

Hi. Sorry I seem to have given you the same advice twice.

First make sure there are no Windows updates waiting to download as it can effect the effectiveness of Movie Edit Pro. Make sure Windows is up to date. Current build is 1943.1202.

Next make sure you have the latest Intel Graphics driver update. That should be 30.0.100.9864 I think. Check anyway as the last Intel Graphics driver also had audio updates in it.

Another problem is if the project is on the C: drive. Ideally it should be on another drive. If it is on an external drive it needs to be connected to a USB3 port. If it is try changing to another USB3 port.

If all else fails resort to using proxy files. That will reduce the overall load on the system.

If you are editing 4K footage I often find even my small projects can easily eat up 12 to 14GB of ram just on the project, not leaving much to run windows and tipping ram usage to above 20GB. When ram usage shown in Task Manger exceeds the amount of physical ram of a system it is put into virtual ram on the disk. That can cause slowdowns and problems.

Using HEVC (H265) footage can also overload a system as it needs a lot of processing power and not leaving much for the actual editing.

Thanks. I will work on the updates and will work on moving the files off of the C drive.

I'm not using 4K footage or HEVC (H256) footage.

I also checked the RAM while I was using the program and it never spiked above using 5-6GB (total for the whole system) . Even so, I shut down everything else besides Movie Edit Pro.
