Why do I have a one second lag in sound when using a MIDI controller keyboard?

"i am using windows 7, xp. i just properly installed an oxygen49 midi controller keyboard via usb cable. magix software has recognized the keyboard but there is a one second lag in the time i play a key on the keyboard and the time the resulting sound is heard. i do not have an audio interphase unit and don't want to have to buy one either. is there a way to eliminate this lag"

Have you tried using the Magix ASIO Low latency drivers?  They are found in File, Settings, Progam Settings, Audio/Midi tab.
