why do midi files sound so strange in MM17?

Hi. I created some midi files in MM11 a few months ago. I just bought a new computer (Windows 7, 64 bit) and then installed MM17 today. I also copied my old files onto the new computer. When I dragged a midi file up into the midi editor, it sounded very strange. Instead of piano, it sounded almost like bongos. How can I get this to sound like a regular piano? Thanks.

Now, this is just a guess....but I suspect that there are some differences between MM11 and MM17, and so a file recorded in MM11 and then loaded into MM17, the synth data. code, messages...whatever you want to call them, changed from one instrument sound to a different instrument sound, or its being played on a synth that didn't exist at the MM11 level....do you sorta get my drift ?
