Why does exporting take so long in Movie Edit Pro 2014 Plus?

jazzrobertson wrote on 1/11/2014, 6:05 PM

I am trying to export a simple, 18 minute long video, and it is saying it will take 10 hours.. I know this can't possibly be right, but no matter how I export it, what settings I use, or what format I try to export it to, it states it will take 10 hours and proceeds to export at a glacial pace. The most drastic effect on the video is some simple color correction.

I am on Windows 7 with 2 GB of RAM, 2.0GHz, 64 bit operating system.

jazzrobertson,

Does the export actually take 10 hours or have you given up at the start? The figure can only be an initial estimate as MEP won't know what simplicity or complexity lies further ahead.

Your color correction may seem simple but it is probably one of the most computer intensive operations. Virtually every pixel of every frame has to be recalculated and then the frames re-compressed for export. Jump cuts are the only truly simple effects as the material on either side can often be copied from source to export unchanged if the format is not being altered.

There are other issues to be considered like whether you have any other programs (even in the background) running at the same time. Many would say 2GB is a minimum -- the Magix site lists 1GB minimum but recommends 4GB particularly for editing the higher resolution formats.

Carl

@cpc000cpc

The export actually takes 10 hours.

I own my own video production company and am simply switching to a simpler program for working at home purposes. Compared to the daily work we do, color correction is overly simple, and should most certainly not cause an 18 minute video to take 10 hours to export.

All other background programs had been closed out, and to the extent I can control I do not run programs that require constant background running.

From your suggestions it seems that upping the RAM is my only option? With the amount of videos I export in a day and week, it's only going to cost me money to use a program that takes 10 hours on only an 18 minute video!

Hi,

Color correction need a better computer the reason is easy your computer run Windows 7 probably home edition with 2 gig memory. Normally to run Windows 7 we need a minimum 6 gig memory (check spec on new laptop). In video 16 gig is the norm for the Windows Home edition because you are limited to 16 GIG.

The computer CPU cannot calculate, fill the memory and write on hard disk. The minimum spec for a computer need is a i7 cpu with 3,0 GHz, 16 gig memory, 1T hard disk Sata with cache memory, Windows 7 or 8, 64 bit and a good video card with memory like NVIDIA. With this machine you can run up to 8 video track and chromakey. Naturally you can lock track to avoid calculation for nothing.

Hi

Your computer, which I suspect from the spec is a laptop, is not powerful enough for for running a 64 bit OS and video rendering.

If you are trying to edit / render HD material then you should be looking at an Intel i5 quad core processor with 8GB RAM minimum (16GB preferable) and SATA 6 hard drives.

I am experiencing the same problem. Takes too long to save. Some times length of the edited clip is longer then the original.

@ pudytat

Did you not read my post on the computer specification?

. . . Some times length of the edited clip is longer then the original . . . .

That is often the case - you have to take into consideration the amount of processing power needed to render transitions and complex edits.

With my old quad core Intel Q8840 computer I could achieve an average render rate of 18 fps ie approx 3/4 of the true frame rate for 25 fps HD material.

With my new quad core i5 I can achieve an average render rate of about 47 fps ie nearly double the true frame rate for 25fps HD material
