Why does magix movie edit pro 15 take too long to mix down a movie being exported when video file is on hard drive, project and software is on hard drive, no other programs are running while mixing down?

I myself have magix movie edit pro 15, we all have had the same problem, the mix down with all machines is different I have tried myself 1. avi video on hard drive 2. Drag and drop to time line. 3. selected video set as project video settings: User Defined. in time line screen went to file export movie to mp4, 4. sometimes  getting the warning of project has differnt resolution to export movie. 5. Changed movie settings to the same as what it needs to be. Mixing down a 2 hour movie takes days. further more opening up task manager while mixing down movie. Magix Process is sometimes Running then Not Responding then running again. Been told to try exporting the demo, tried that........... same thing, been told PC is too new to run old software, tried moving it to differnt systems. Same mixdown problems.................... The only thing I have seen dne well would be some of the tech geek magix movies on youtube but yet they don't respond to questions.

It needs to be answered clearly..... The question: Why does magix movie edit pro 15 take too long to mix down a movie being exported when video file is on hard drive, project and software is on hard drive, no other programs are running while mixing down, and MAGIX INC. is physically impossable to get ahold of unless you want to $$$PAY$$$ for support.  Anyway Specs for my PC are:

Magix Movie Edit Pro 15

OS: Winodws 7 Pro

System: Toshiba Satelite P755D

Processor: AMD A6-3400M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 1.40 GHz

RAM: 8GB (7.48GB usable)

64-bit Operating System

Hard Drive: 1 TB (704GB usable, free)

Avast Anti Virus

Hello.

I think all fellow-users will understand your frustration that what seems to us a simple task (exporting an .avi file to mp4, or indeed, many other possible formats) seems to take a disproportionate length of time.  However, the bottom line for this is very much to do with the specification of the computer being used.  So, some observations...

  1. MEP15 is now quite old.  More recent versions do tend to "work faster".
  2. You say "no other programs are running while mixing down".  Does that include your antivirus?  Given the way in which Windows operates, your statement is likely to be less than completely correct!  If you open Task manager you may be quite surprised at how many processes are actually running all the time.  However, this should not have much effect on your problem unless that number of processes is unusually high.
  3. The AMD processor which you have in your computer is described as being suitable for "entry-level" laptops (read the full information http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-A-Series-A6-3400M-Notebook-Processor.55753.0.html )  Although it is a quad-core processor, its speed is "relatively slow" for a computer working with video files.  I also notice the Graphics is integrated with the processor; the standard recommendation is to have, where possible, a separate graphics card.
  4. I also see you mention only 1 hard drive.  Assuming this is the internal drive and that you do not have any other drive, this means that the Operating System, Programs and all your data files (including your video files) are all on the one drive.  At any given moment MEP or Windows itself may need to be reading data from each of these three "areas" of the one disc.  The relatively slow CPU almost certainly means some "interruptions" to the steady flow of data; hence your finding of the MEP process "sometimes running then not responding then running again".  

Just my thoughts on your problem, not sure they offer any "easy" solution but might give you some things to think about!

Hi,

As well as Jeff's advice I'd suggest that you develop a very small non-confidential project that exhibits the slow rendering, note the duration, and then use File > Backup > Copy project and media, zip it and upload it so that others can time it on other PCs. I will do so in MEP 15 and let you know the result.
