Why does the mute button mute the audio as well as the video in MEP Pro 2015 Plus

Trying wrote on 6/23/2015, 3:38 PM

Am just wondering why when I mute the audio on a track that has both audio and video the video also stops. Seperating the audio to a track of its own still results in the video on the track above it stopping, but in both cases the only way I can mute the audio is from the File> Audio functions> Mute audio object.

There is also another problem in that even doing this mute procedure is not easy, as the program seems to have a mind of its own regarding showing the Audio functions tab under File, this happen when either trying to mute or un muting again, one has to move the marker along the time line, play a short bit of use another function and then come back to the File menu and then the Audio settings entry is there, and yes I clicked on the object, whether it be the video or the an audio object in the timeline the same thing happens.

This image shows the timeline lit up, yet no sign of the Audio setting entry under the file menu.

Hi John,

We discussed this in the MEP forum. Here is one example. Most of the problems have been resolved.

Can you post another screen shot showing the File menu with "Audio Functions?" I don't recall seeing this and I can't get it. I get "Audio functions" by right-clicking on a video clip, none on an image (photo).

Are you using patch 14.0.0.172 or 176? I think that 176 just came out with improvements in validation process (license verification).

Your first problem, video / audio on separate tracks, I don't have this problem in the Premium version (Plus and Premium are actually the same). So with video on track 1 and audio one track 2, still grouped, clicking M at the left of track 2 mutes the audio only for track 2 without affecting the video. In your image, I see video and audio on track 1. Are you sure that you separated them (Ctrl+H)?

Did you try ungrouping video and audio once they were on separate tracks?

To mute the audio on a video object, right-click, Audio functions, Mute object should work. To unmute, drag the bottom middle handle upwards. This is the volume handle. To mute an audio object, right-click, Volume, Sound off.

Another way to mute is in the mixer. However, turning on Mute also turns off video on that track. But you can turn the sound of the track off or down by dragging the volume slider down in the Mixer.

To adjust sound over time, you can turn on the volume curve and add points and adjust them up or down, or click on Auto on the track in the Mixer and do it live while playing back (this takes practice).

Hi John

Thank you for your help, I can now mute the audio whether I seperate it to a seperate track or not, by using the slider on the audio track as you have outlined, I can also do the same under the Audio Functions. And If one clicks on unlink this also seperates the audio to a seperate track, and then the mute can be applied without stoping the video play back.

The initial problem of clicking on the mute adjasant to the track when the audio and video are on the same track still stops the video play back as well as muting the audio, but given the many options mentioned above, the problem is well and truely catered for, though it is a bit confusing to find the mute button is not capable of doing this on its own, for new users like me, I have audio editing programs and you can be sure the mute track does just that, it is misleading.

In any event, I have tried and tried, and I can not get the Audio functions under the File heading, I must have made a mistake, and it was this function that was most annoying to me, because I could not get it to work consistently, hense my mind of its own comment. I must of somehow swiped the touchpad, either way, I am using the most up to date version, and for anyone reading this, MUTE WORKS AND THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO ACHIEVE THIS, JUST DON'T USE THE M BUTTON NEXT THE TRACK UNLESS YOU UNLINK THE AUDIO FIRST.

Magix Video Pro X whatever have additional buttons at the left of the track and the audio and video can be muted separately. You get more or less features depending on the program that you buy. I wanted all of the features so I bought VPX7.

Hi

. . . . he initial problem of clicking on the mute adjasant to the track when the audio and video are on the same track still stops the video play back as well as muting the audio . . . .

That is the correct action - the Mute button is for muting the whole track, not just the audio, this is a different  function from muting audio.

I avoid mixing audio and video wherever possible in MEP.  There are enough tracks available to do this.  You can then use the track mute button if you require all the audio on that track muted.

I use this track mute capability for when I produce a movie in two versions eg titling and subtitles in English and German - each on their own seperate track.

This gives me one movie and by muting one or the other language track I can create both versions quickly - until langauge selection is added to MEP, as is available in VPX.

Alternatively if I need language selection I duplicate the first timeline to a second timeline in the same project and then change the text, titles etc.  MEP will create a disc with two meus for selection - for more info see here

@John EB,

Unfortunately the Dual channel feature in VPX6 and now VPX7 does not work. One can do everthing up to burning advanced parameters and then the Dual channel option is not available. The feature should be available when using Main Concept, but it is not there, nor is in the settings of the normal codec. I tested VPX7 yesterday and it is like VPX6, missing the last link. Thus multi-language DVD's and BD's cannot be created. I raised a ticket with Magix and am awaiting a reply. I first raised this over a year ago about VPX6 and was told that it was known, fixed and would be in a future patch. The fix didn't come with the latest VPX6 patch.  I will post more on this in the VPX forum.
