Why is finished video jumpy

bobikins wrote on 1/3/2014, 11:53 AM

I have finished a movie comprising three scenes of captured VHS and exported it as Mpeg. total 4.6GB using Magix Movie Edit ProMX purchased about one month ago.

The result has jumpy sections (choppy) - I have noticed this problem at various stages in the movie making process and have re captured various sections in an attempt to stop it - thinking it may be an unstable capture - but the choppiness reappears somewhere else - the last time in the exported MPEG movie.

My computer is a desktop with: i5 Quad core (2.67GHZ)/ 8Gb RAM/ATI Radeon HD5700 Graphics card(updated drivers) and the VHS is captured using a Easycap. Operating system Windows 7 64bit Home Premium. There are no other programmes running. I have cleaned all heat exchanger and fan surfaces . My security package is GData Internet security 2014 - I have tried switching off various functions but it makes no difference. I have carried out a full deep scan (using GData). The only other thing running while I am using Magix software is the WIFI router.

There is no obvious connection between the different choppy sections that appear and it seems to happen at random and once it appears it stays. The current situation is that I have a movie saved as MPEG with choppy sections.

I have read all of the Questions /Answers herein but I seem to have done just about everything suggested and some others - I feel I am missing something - any ideas?

Did that include reviewing all the suggestions I made here?

Thank you for the prompt reply.

Yes I have tried changing the various settings as suggested - one or two lost my video display altogether -(panic)- but nothing seems to make any difference so I reverted back to my initial ones. I do not recall having tried the HD accelleration (not comfortable with that one) . The problem is it is a long movie (nearly 2 hrs) and the chopping seems to occur in random locations. It is cleared by re-capturing and replacing faulty scenes but then appears elsewhere (very frustrating) . I thought it maybe just in the screen playback but it is still present in the saved files when played in Windows or Realplayer. It seems as if something influences the recording after it is made (not possible I would have thought) - I suspected the influence of poor tracking in the VHS sections but the same thing happened in the Video8 sections which are nigh on perfect quality. I am ploughing on but keeping the record of where the fault occurs is a nightmare as I have to play through a lot of film to find it .It is worth noting that the sound is unaffected and that comes in direct via the computer mic input as the easycap route simply did not work at all .

I have now discovered that all of the files (scenes) that are jumpy actually have a period of normal stability for almost exactly 60 seconds before the jumpiness starts.I can't think of anything that would cause such a regular fault but it does seem to indicate that there the fault arises as a result of some action that is time based. Still a mystery to me.

I have tried seemingly every possible combination of record and playback parameters without any progress whatsoever.

I have engaged in a five day support session with Magix staff without any success at all.

The choppiness appears at random in the project and reappears in another location if I remove choppy sections and use a new capture. 120 hours is enough .I have concluded that there is a basic incompatibilty issue between captures and  Movie Edit Pro MX.

Thank you for your attention.

I have now completed the movie by re recording jumpy section and patching them in and have decided to persevere with Movie Edit Pro . For my next project I decided to re-instal the EasyCap (STK1160) Windows 7 drivers and after a little adjustment I have good stable capture preview and sound direct via the EasyCap output (I used the PC mic input before). But now the red record button does not work and the error messages "Cant Find Connected Device" or "Could Not Connect To Selected Device" appears. I have tried various options without success - any suggestions ?

SOLUTION FOUND:

I DECIDED TO REVERT TO THE METHOD OF GRABBING AUDIO USED ORIGINALLY IE RECORD VIA THE MICROPHONE INPUT OF THE P.C  .I PUT A JACK PLUG IN THE MICROPHONE INPUT (WITHOUT CONNECTING IT TO THE EASYCAP) AND LO AND BEHOLD  THE RECORD BUTTON WORKED NORMALLY AND MOVIE EDIT PRO RECOGNISED THE EASYCAP IN BOTH AUDIO AND VIDEO (WITH THE SOUND VIA THE EASYCAP.) . ANYONE IN A SIMILAR SITUATION MAY LIKE TO TRY THIS .

Just to let you know this use of a jack plug (with nothing connected to it) opened the record function (lit the red button)  in the capture window but did not affect the choppiness issue which contnues to appear in some captures at exactly sixty seconds into the clip - still a mystery.
