Why is there a delay when I try to record vocals over a track?

Right now, I'm just using my laptop's mic. Not the best I know, but there is a split second delay that throws everything off....any suggestions?

I'm using Magic Music Maker MX....

I was having the same problem. read this, it should help. Your problem is probably latency, whcih means that your soundcard cannot handle playback as it is recording
