why video clips jerk and go out of sync – picture and audio when editing with magix ?

hadeup wrote on 9/23/2013, 1:29 AM

I'm on windows 7 + MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2013 Plus.

what causes some video clips to jerk and go out of sync – picture and audio when editing with magix ?

Tried few experiments and it seems that these problems occurs when i do editing from sources imported from more than one dvd to make a new dvd . If editing done from a single dvd then the video clips (picture and audio) are OK, no problems.

Is it possible that when the video clips are imported from more than one dvd and when i use the “adjust / do not adjust” the resolutions causes these problems?

Dvds from the following 3 dvds were combined into one dvd :

Dvd 1 – For the following if clicked do not adjust  - smaller video pictures so i clicked  “adjust”
The active movie has a resolution of 640*480 (4:3), 30 fps
The file _ _ _ movie has a resolution of 1280*720 (16:9), 30 fps
If you wish to adjust the movie & video monitor settings to the imported file, click on ”adjust” _ _ _ adjust / do not adjust

Dvd 2 – For the following clicking “adjust” and do not adjust makes no difference to pictures and quality
The active movie has a resolution of 1280*720 (16:9), 30 fps
The file _ _ _ movie has a resolution of 1920*1080 (16:9), 25 fps
If you wish to adjust the movie & video monitor settings to the imported file, click on” adjust” _ _ _ adjust / do not adjust

Dvd 3 -  For the following clicking “adjust” makes the pictures larger, so i clicked  “adjust”

The active movie has a resolution of 640*480 (4:3), 30 fps
The file _ _ _ movie has a resolution of 720*480 (3:2), 30 fps
If you wish to adjust the movie & video monitor settings to the imported file, click on” adjust” _ _ _ adjust / do not adjust

Please note that whether i “adjust / do not adjust” - the above resolutions, the end results was  that the video clips jerks and are out of sync – picture and audio. Any clues, please?

Hi

DVD VOB files are actually mpg files  and these are known to have problems with syncing due to their internal structure.

On the timeline, select the video clips and right click , from the popup menu select Create frametable new

This should fix your problem.

Thank You John.

Did as you instructed but cannot find “Create frametable new”, to select, on the timeline, after selecting the video clips and right clicking the popup menu ! Please refer to screenshot.

Hi

Looks like MEP did not recognise they are mpg files.

Check you have the Automatically create frametable option in the program settings checked.

Copy the video VOB's (the largest one's) from the discs to your computer and change the file extension to .mpg

Then import into MEP - this should correct the sync problems

Note - copyright protected discs will not work using this method.

Thank You John,

Tried the same files with Windows Movie Maker and had no problems.

Why do you think MEP did not recognise these mpg files?

So, does this mean that if its copyright protected discs it will not work in MEP even after its been ripped?

These files mentioned are not copyright protected discs but are PAL format and VOB converted mpeg files!

Hi,

That's odd. Works fine here as you see.

Can't tell from your screenshot but I assume those DVD imports are VOB?

Thanks Terry,

You are using MAGIX Movie Edit Pro MX Premium so i guess it works fine but I'm on MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2013 Plus so its not fine cos there is No “Create frametable new” for choice!

Hi,

No, it's just the same in 2013.

Did you check you have the Automatically create frametable option in Program settings > Video/Audio checked as John suggested.

Did you check the files are genuine VOB fies as I asked? Do the GSpot or MediaInfo reports reveal any possible clues?

Can you upload a small example of a VOB that exhibits this behaviour?

Sorry John & Terry ,

Did not quite understood earlier instructions, english is not my main medium.

Yes, found the “Automatically create frametable during import”.

I had deleted those problematic files from magix and will try again and forward if i experience the same problems.

As explained earlier, i suspected the “mismatch” of these various video files – different resolutions from all 3 DVDs as shown by MediaInfo screen shots, as follows:

Cliff Richard - Countdown Concert 1999 -1920*1080 (16:9), 25 fps
Cliff Richard & Shadows - Birmingham -1280*720 (16:9), 29.97 fps
CLIFF RICHARD FROM A DISTANCE THE EVENT -1280*720 (16:9), 29.97 fps
Cliff World Tour 2003 - 720*480 (3:2), 29.97 fps

Thank You

PS Terry, please how to upload small example of a VOB file to this forumn?

terrypin wrote on 9/26/2013, 1:46 PM

As I suspected, the files are not VOB. So that was a redundant discussion!

You said they were "...sources imported from more than one dvd to make a new dvd." I assumed that meant regular DVDs (playable in a DVD player). Were they perhaps collections of WMV files in a data DVD?

To upload most video file types (but not VOB) use the video tool.

Try the exercise again and this time consistently choose the Don't adjust option. Also try to use just two files, as small as possible while still exhibiting the problem out-of-sync behaviour. Those different frame rates and aspect ratios are a definite potential problem; try isolating the issue by not including certain combinations.

THANK YOU, TERRY, WILL DO & REVERT.

THANK YOU TERRY,

Yes, it works, your exercise to consistently choose "Don't adjust option" causes NO jerks and out of sync for picture and audio. Only problem are all the video pictures are smaller when compared to "adjust option" if used! Is there no other way to do it without compromising the picture size ?
