Why when I play back my song on MM premium I get distortion, static, and the screen freezes.

My problem is lately everytime I play back a song I just completed, the red line that  moves across the screen in the arranger stops and the screen freezes, but the music keeps playing but the sound is  static, distorted,  and it even skips. Its plays almost like bad or scratched CD. It seems it started happening when I started using and applying some of the audio effects to different objects and/or when applying the  Mastering Suite  before I burn it to a CD. I have windows xp3, Magix MM Mx Premium. When the screen freezes I cant click on anything as nothing will work until it goes thru this phase. What could be the problem and what adjustments do I need to make? This just started happening just a few days ago. I have 10 tracks on this partucular song.

You haven't told us what we really need to know.  What are the specs of your computer (CPU/speed, RAM/speed, sound card, video card., etc.)  You also don't tell us which version of MMM you are using - Premium, yes, but which one?

The fact that you're still using Windows XP suggests that your computer is fairly old and may be borderline when it comes to power and resourses.  The symptoms you describe suggest you've exceeded your computer's abilities and resources.

The first thing to do is to increase the playback buffers on the Audio/MIDI tab in the Program Settings.  The other thing is to make sure nothing, and I mean NOTHING, else is open and running when using MMM.

I can tell you Symantic's Norton Anti-virus has the annoying habit of searching for and downloading updates at the most inopportune times.  If necessary, completely disconnect your internet connection (cable, wireless adapter, etc.) and turn the anti-virus OFF.  Just remember to turn it back on before reconnecting to the internet.

Ok Procyon I'll try this. Thanks for your response. I did increase the buffer size to I 16384 I think it is and I make sure nothing is running, no internet connection. It only seems to do this on one song always in the same spot.
