Will having export settings different from my film settings stop me from exporting?

I've been trying to export this film for several days now and Magix keeps freezing up and shutting down.  I do keep getting the message that the film settings differ from the export settings... is that what is causing it to shut down?  My film is a montage of various other films sent to me by other people, so there are several differing settings within the film.  My film is only 28 minutes long, I wouldn't think that would freeze Magix up.  Any suggestions?  I'm developing a twitch in my right eye over this!

Hi

The export settings being different from the projects settings does not stop exporting.

However there may be some unwanted side effects which are not required and can be difficult to overcome - for example

  • Changing framerate eg 29.97 fps down to 24fps can cause  problem with panning video or video with motion across the screen - this can result in 'juddering' as the motion goes across the screen.

  • Changing from Interleaved video to Progressive.

The problem you are having is not uncommon, I suspect it is one particualar clip or audio object which is causing the problem.

To isolate the problem save the project with a diffrent name.

Using this project remove all the objects in the second half of the timeline and try exporting

         - if it fails repeat the halving again until you can isolate the section or clip that is causing the problem

         - if it succeed then remove the first half and put the second half back and try exporting again.

Repeat the above as necessary until you isolate the clip or object causing the problem.

Thanks, John!   I'm very new at this and I've watched a ton of tutorials and can't figure out how to finish this thing up. You're right.  There are definitely unwanted side effects with all the different film clip settings.  So, do you have suggestions on which setting I can use?  Or do I export them all separately as an MP4 using their specific settings and then put them all together under one setting?  And if so, which setting do I use?  I really have no clue.  I appreciate your help.

Hi

. . . . So, do you have suggestions on which setting I can use? . . . .

That depends entirely on what you want to do with the exported mp4.

Do you wish to:

  1. Send the file to other people to view on their computer

  2. Upload it to a website eg Youtube, Vimeo

  3. View it on a mobile device eg tablet, smartphone

In each case there are  different requirements - in the above examples I would do the following:

  1. Export the video as mp3 using one of the HDTV presets ie HDTV 1280 * 720 or HDTV 1920*1080

  2. Use the recommended settings for Youtube or Vimeo - note these are more advanced settings - if in doubt use the Flashplayer  1280*720 preset.

  3. Due to the vast number of mobile devices there is no single setting which will work with all, however the Flashplayer presets may be a good starting point.

John EB, if bonus points are awarded for fabulously helpful answers, you get 10,000!!!  Thank you for that!  I am uploading it to Youtube, so your answer covers it.  And you were also right about exporting it in smaller sections.  Thanks so much!!!
