Won't Start

Aaron-Orear wrote on 2/24/2021, 9:16 AM

I opened Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium 2021 today and it said there was an update. Fine. I clicked and it started to work. Once finished, I clicked on the icon to start the program and nothing happened. Nothing. The little timer circle briefly appears next to the cursor, but soon vanishes and nothing happens. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and still, nothing.

@Aaron-Orear

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

 I have uninstalled and reinstalled

Unfortunately, that may well have made the situation worse, sorry.

We always advise that, if you need to uninstall a Magix product prior to reinstalling it, because the built-in Uninstaller does not know about any files, folders and registry entries which are created only on first or subsequent runs, it cannot uninstall them and therefore, in order to ensure that everything connected with the previous installation is removed you should use the free Revo Uninstaller, or similar.

Once downloaded and installed, allow Revo Uninstaller to find and remove everything connected with MEP. Onc ethe initial uninstall is completed you should then allow Revo to complete and Advanced Scan; this will find all those files folders etc referred to above. Just be sure to check carefully the list of everything this scan tells you is going to be removed, especially if you have any other Magix software on your computer.

Once the uninstall is completed, reboot your computer and then reinstall and re-register the app. Depending on how many activations of the app are listed on your Magix account you may need to log into it, go to My Products and deactivate any now unused installations.

I am the same problem, not only will it hang up when I try to install the reported update, it hangs up and reporting installing extra content. The message shows a list of extra files but does not allow me to click box.

@Aaron-Orear

Hi

To add to @emmrecs comment ' reboot your computer' use the Windows button, Power option, Restart  not a shutdown/power up.

@Dennis-Devine

Hi

Your issue has a different cause from the OPs issue

. . . . it hangs up and reporting installing extra content. The message shows a list of extra files but does not allow me to click box . . . .

See this solution to the Install Extra Content - restart MEP, click the Remind me later option on the update dialog then apply the linked to fix, once this is sorted restart MEP and install the update.

Found this post from MAGIX Support Team in the german corner of this forum:

Patch notes Movie Edit Pro (20.0.1.80)/Video Pro X (18.0.1.95):

    Support for iPhone 12 photos and videos improved (HEIF/HEVC)
    Automatic rotation of images improved
    Aspect ratio of thumbnails in project list corrected
    Crash fixed if collage was selected when closing a project
    Crash fixed if aperture configuration was incorrect in old projects
    Fixed crash when importing videos with multiple audio tracks

Some of you experienced problems with program startup after installing the patch, which can be easily fixed:

Your system is most likely missing a Windows component that your program requires. We were able to solve the problems by restarting the operating system and installing the Microsoft runtime package below:

  1. Download the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables:
    https://aka.ms/vs/16/release/VC_redist.x64.exe
  2. Install the downloaded file (VC_redist.x64.exe)
  3. Now restart your editing computer (Windows key -> restart PC)

Best regards and have fun being creative!

Thanks for the input all. I found the problem by opening the Apps tab in settings and looking at the dates when various apps were last updated. Windows had updated a handful of things, including Microsoft Visual C++, same day as I had trouble with Magix. I hit the Modify button for C++ and it re-updated. As soon as I did that, Magix opened without any issues.
