wondering if anyone can help me with these issues

I'm having trouble with a few things...

is it possible to change the background field color to white so that when i reduce the size of an image on a clip that is on a white field i won't get a thick black border around the image?
while in story board mode I'm frequently not able to use the transition that I've chosen between a video clip, or title clip and a picture clip...I keep trying to change the transition to say "thru Black" bit instead it'll stay as cross fade or something else...sometimes it won't accept any transition at all...often the only way i can get the transition that i want is to choose "Apply to All" to get it to change and then I need to go back and change the transitions that I wanted to be something else. Also what does the check mark mean next to the transition options and why does it move around?
When saving changes, or saving the project when I'm done for the day is hitting the "save" icon next to "file" sufficient or is it any necessary to click "File" then "Save Project"?...
Is there a way to stabilize shaky or jittery video footage?

1. Yes - right click the image and select Background design, Background design then set the options you require.

2. Try working in Timeline mode - Storyboard mode is not as versatile for making changes.

3. Yes - note: it is advisable to save the project regularly while working on it, if the project has not been saved you will be prompted to save it before the program closes.

4. Yes - depending on the version of MEP you have under Video effects you will find Stabilisation or Prodad Mercalli 2 or, if you have Prodad Mercalli v4 installed, then it is lower down the Effects menu

If you use either Prodad Mercalli I would advise you to watch the tutorials on how to use it on Youtube
