Would someone help me Find a GPU that I can enable HWE to help a bit

Time for  new GPU.  Would someone help me Find a GPU that I can enable HWE to help a bit  with rendering time?

(MEP+ 16) I have read through the forum, but I do not understand GPU's enough to make use of the conflicting info. I do not care what brand,  I do not care if it is old. Even used!  I do not game.   I just need it to be compatible with my EVGA Z170 FTW Mobo,  and help the CPU with the large number of  effects I use in my short movies.  CPU just needs a LITTLE help ,  so the lower the price the better.

Hi

Is this a new build or and existing PC? If existing what CPU do you already have in the motherboard?

@johnebaker

Hello John,

It is an existing build. (4yrs old) CPU is i7 6700k (locked!).

Current GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 740. (no HW acceleration, and the bottleneck of my system)

32G RAM ( running at 3200MHz)

500GB SSD

1TB HDD

Camera: Sony FDR AX53

Render times are fine when I do not use any effects (less then 2 to 1 .... 4 minutes to render a 2 minute video), but I often have 4-6 effects on a 4 second clip, and I have 30 clips or more in a video. (renders jump to 5+ to 1... a 2 minute video takes 11 minutes to render) This is why I am hoping a GPU with HWA will help with effects.

It is not that bad when I am doing a typical 2 minute vid, but when I do a 15 minute vid the wait time is excruciating.

Hi

.. . . MEP+ 16 . . .

Do you mean MEP Plus 16 or MEP Plus 2016?

Changing the processor is not really necessary.

Assuming you mean MEP 2016, try the following to force the Intel GPU to be used.

Open the NVidia control panel and select Manage 3D settings

To use the Intel GPU you can then either:

  1. Set the Global setting

On the Global Settings tab - red arrow in omage below - select the Intel GPU processor as your preferred graphics processor and click Apply.

Note: this will affect all programs

    OR

  2. Specify which graphics processor programs are to use:

Select the Program settings tab - blue arrow - if Movie Edit Pro is not listed, click Add. Search for the Movie Edit Pro application - assuming you mean Movie Edit Pro Plus 2016 the location is

C:\Program Files\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro version\ and locate the Videodeluxe.exe file - double click to select it.

Open the drop down menu and select the Intel integrated GPU as the preferred graphics processor for MEP and click Apply.

  3. Close the NVidia control panel.

Check in the program settings that HWA is enabled as shown below

You should now hardware acceleration.

I am not seeing Intel GPU or  Intel integrated GPU anywhere in global or program settings. am I missing something?

@Anishinabefilm

Hi

It is possible that the installation of the NVidia has disabled the Intel iGPU in the BIOS.

You can check this using Windows Device Manager - you should see the Intel listed as shown below - this is my computers display adapter the HD 4600.

If it is not there then reboot the computer and go into the BIOS, how depends on your computer - it should tell you at the bottom of the screen which key to press to get into the BIOS

When in the BIOS you should find a setting - where depends on the BIOS type - to enabled the onboard /Intel graphics.

Once this is enabled Windows should then detect and install the necessary drivers, it will then appear in Device Manager and the NVidia control panel.

An issue arises if that fails, I would normally advise pulling the NVidia card out of the system as you are not a gamer. However, AFAICS, the motherboard only has 1 x Displayport and 1 x HDMI video out - if your monitor(s) do not support Displayport or HDMI connectivity, then this is not an option.

It was disabled in BIOS. Doing a render test now. So far, it does seem to make much difference. I am rendering a larger movie so the differences will be more than a couple seconds. Thank you so much for your help!
