mcw1,

First a Thank You -- I didn't realize that the preview window could be zoomed like that at all!

Second, why would you want to zoom for key framing? The only instance I can think of is to see the marquee when an effect is going to go completely off screen as suggested in the pdf manual section "Animation from outside the image".  In that case I've always used the exact number entries eg 1920 x 0 rather than the 1916 x 3 which looked OK as shown in this screenshot:

Third, sorry, I don't know of any keyboard shortcut. A google search finds lots of tips for writing programs that simulate mouse wheel actions. Perhaps if you need to do this regularly you might find a keyboard macro utility to add this function.

Regards,

Carl

Thanks for your trouble Carl - but it seems you have misunderstood my question

I am referring to the keyframe window (which appears under the effects tab) - not the preview window

It would be nice if all the nice navigation shortcuts for the main window worked here - but they still work on the main window regardless

As I spend most of my editing time with keyframes I find this a nuisance -

I zoom in and enter some keyframes near the project start - but every time I go back to the keyframe window they are all bunched up at the beginning as the window reverts to the full project size

Also when loading a project I would expect the windows to appear exactly as when I saved it - or at least have an option for that

I have tried LOTS of software and find this all the time - loads of great features and shortcuts - but important keyboard commands or functions just don't exist - I am still looking for any software that doesn't require me to use the mouse - I hate it - and my arm hurts after years of using the damn thing

Err.....are we talking about the preview window or the keyframe window?

Both can be zoomed by the Ctrl + Mousewheel but what's so horrible about that? Releasing Ctrl alows the mousewheel to then shift the keframe window enlarged view, left and right. Pretty elegant if you ask me!

In addition the end of the bar below the keyframe window can be dragged to zoom, the same as the the one below the timeline,  or the + or - buttons to the right can be clicked. So plenty of options.

Useful if you have a long clip and lots of keyframes and you want to shift one slightly that would otherwise be obscured by the next one Carl.

Ah, I see... Yes I was only looking at the preview window.

"Also when loading a project I would expect the windows to appear exactly as when I saved it - or at least have an option for that" -- The big problem with keyframe windows is that the zoom level would have to be specific to an individual object, not the project as a whole. I suspect there would be a big performance hit if the zoom level had to be auto-adjusted every time you selected an object just in case you were going to adjust a keyframe. And then... what if you have a bunch of (eg contrast) keyframes at the very start of a clip (which need a close zoom) and also evenly spaced size/position keyframes across the remainder of a twenty second shot which require a completely different zoom. Which zoom level do want 'saved' with your project?

I'm no physiotherapist, but if my arm hurt from using a moue I'd look at posture and workspace layout. Perhaps a mouse wrist support so that your arm is relaxed and you are only using your fingers?

Carl
