Greetings Magix community,

The theme here 'A Land Ahead (Encouragement)' is related to the theme of the 'Our Journey's Moment Of Rest'  ambient music video as a journey traveled with the influence of ancient music means. The rainstick will be the featured instrument on this piece. A 'Land Ahead (Encouragement)' is a special version of my original 'A Land Ahead' that I created and performed in 2018. The 'A Land Ahead' album tracks were among the very first tracks that I published for the internet. I dedicate this track to those who had encouraged me in my music and many thanks to all my listeners over the past years.

Video Version

A Land Ahead (p) Mark Kostora 2018 -- shortened, remixed, and remastered for Magix.

The original cover art as shown in the video was done and provided by me.

Some time ago I had difficulties uploading the video version of this track. After reducing the high definition HDR settings to a smaller frame size, and further setting the video quality as a DVD quality setting and using a new high speed network on my end I can finally keep my promise and share this video version of 'A Land Ahead (Encouragement) to the Magix community. I think the problem was that I had used quite a few of the highest quality images originally and they just didn't fit into the allowable Magix server space. Still the video looks good and I am glad to finally share it with you ;)

So jedenfalls mein empfinden.

I rarely look at the video section. The sound structure supports the photos excellently and leaves room for your own thoughts. You can tell that you put a lot of thought into your work, which is great. Many impressive images 👍

“A Land Ahead (Encouragement) – Video Version”

The video opens with a striking image: a rainstick resting in a parched landscape. It’s a quiet but unmistakable signal that the rainstick will be the featured instrument — a promise of rhythm and renewal set against dryness and scarcity. The contrast is intentional, and it frames the entire piece.

The sequence of idyllic nature scenes that follows is pleasant to look at, but beneath the beauty lies an unspoken message: life requires effort. The land may be lovely, but it does not give freely. The encouragement here is not soft or sentimental — it’s the encouragement of necessity. To live, we must work. To move forward, we must hunker down. The land ahead is not a gift; it is a task.

Then comes the hungry big cat, staring out with baleful, unblinking eyes. It’s a reminder that humans are not separate from nature but part of the food chain. The encouragement sharpens here — survival is not guaranteed, and the world is not arranged for our comfort. It’s a subtle but effective jolt.

At the end, we finally see the humans — including the composer — gathered on an outdoor patio. They are outside, but not too outside. Nature is present, but only in manageable, bite‑sized doses. It’s a modern compromise: we honour the outdoors, but we keep a safe buffer between ourselves and the raw world that shaped our ancestors.

As a whole, the video is visually pleasing and thematically coherent. It gently evokes the long human story — the generations who looked toward the land ahead and wondered what it demanded of them. And yes, perhaps the sound of a rainstick does encourage rain.

@Philip-J

Thank you Philip,

You have noticed that there are two different kinds of encouragement expressed in 'A Land Ahead'. An encouragement to take journey ... My first idea was to express a group of musicians in more ancient times taking a journey across the landscape of many lands. They carried their primitive instruments with them such as digeridoos and rainsticks with them and at times of rest would play the instruments. Yes this is the effort of taking a journey, taking in what nature is presenting us and at times of rest enjoying the sound they are creating among themselves. Of course it takes effort to take a journey and learn and understand what is around us and how we fit in with nature. And how to respect the world that we are in.

The encouragement we give to others to create and perform music is the other form of encouragement that is expressed here. In one of the last images I was standing next to a well known pioneer of synthesizer music, Steve Roach'. He is very well known and respected here in the North America southwest. He also is into 'primitive' type musical instruments and played those along the many synthesizers that he would bring along and perform live with at his home studio in Arizona and to wherever he toured. After a performance he would spend hours with his fans and encourage each of us in or own music. He was even a Grammy nominee in nature based electronic music. To Steve Roach his fans are his musical family. The encouragement given to me by Steve Roach and others is an example that helps me in my musical development and I wish to do the same for others ;)

Mark ;)

Splendid ambient music, my friend and colleague.
Very beautiful, with magnificent sounds, some of them natural, especially at the beginning and towards the end.
All of this is also very clear and crystalline at times; the images accompanying this beautiful composition are also lovely.
A very good piece of work, my friend, which delights my discerning ears... My best and well-deserved congratulations...
Friendly greetings from Pat...
