Dear Santa (I Just Don't Get It)

Merry Christmas Guys,

And thanks for such a lovely year spent in your company here in the forum.  Pretty obviously, this is my Christmas effort - again using the Alter/Ego voice synthesizer. 'Daisy', free from Plogue.com (have to always say that as a condition of use, and I really don't mind doing it).  Still struggling with getting it to sound 'natural', but generally think that with practice, the words are becoming more deciperable to listen to - famous last words . . . . .  Lyrics are included below, and you'll quickly understand this is rather trite.

Anyhow, it's a layer each of Celtic Harp, Upright Bass, Analog Synth (Big Choir), Alchemy voice pack and two of Vita strings - plus the voice synthesizer of course.  All midi work in the matrix editor.

Thanks for listening, if you do.

Lyrics -
Hello Santa, Did you get the socks I sent last year?
Mummy told me that it's much, much colder where you ive than it is here.
You're so busy, that you really can't afford to catch a cold,
Or pneumonia, which is like a really, bad, bad cold, or so I'm told.

The North Pole, Why live there - I just don't get it.
So, so cold, way up there - I just don't get it.

Now I'm seven I've been thinking quite a lot and I've been wondering.
I have a lot of questions, but can you answer one thing?
You have the power to travel round the world in one night (that's amazing),
Not only that - you have time to make millions of deliveries.

Why does it only work one night?  And can you only do toys?
Won't you do even one more flight?
You could take food to the starving girls and boys.

Everywhere. Don't you care? - I just don't get it.
Why not share?  Seems unfair - I just don't get it.

After last year when i didn't get a thing I asked for,
Mummy told me that with Daddy gone we are a bit poor.
I was cross at first, but now I understand that I don't need those things.
All my friends are only happy for a while with what Santa brings.

Please don't think I'm not grateful for all the toys you brought me.
They've been marvellous and wonderful.
And they brought me joy for a while.
But you can't eat toys and I'm hungry.

There's a lot of folk who just need food.  Can't you see? - I just don't get it.
All around.
Folk need you to spread your good.  Won't you see? - I just don't get it.

Greedy people wanting more means other end up on the floor.
And they can't get up.
Please Santa see what you can do.
If you won't, I just don't get it.

Daisy has an English accent this time, did she have that before? I never noticed it until now.

The lyrics in this are very introspective, they are very impacting bro. Wow.

As usual bro, this beat is bouncy, bubbly and awesome (and you have my fav - That nicely sampled upright bass).

The celtic harps are really well played and tuned.

The reverb/delay is just right, they sit in a beatiful spot in the track, just in front of the analog synth. Very peaceful and melodic.

The violins (strings) added an extra depth of character to this piece and you play them from a soft to medium sound very much like an orchestra would bro.

Gives it a lot more class (not that it needed it bro).

The drums are very minimal in this piece, but, like every other instrument, it has its own place and it handles its own very well.

The analog synth (Choir synth) is great. I have noticed you using it a lot recently and it is a great addition with your new tracks. You are using it like you do your upright bass. Like a Jedi bro!

Hi Nickillus:

This uniquely constructed song is just one of the many reasons why I continue to 'flock' to your sessions.  You're always exploring, stretching and presenting some of the more original musical concepts within this fine community.  I, for one, never tire of listening to your material.  (Even though you're too modest to acknowledge your creative abilities).

Thanks for providing the lyrics (which are far from "trite").  I agree with Martin, the bass is a core element, and provides a nice anchor for the other effects.  The female voice synthesizer reminds me a little of my ex-wife. (Just kidding).

Very unique presentation, Nick.  Well worth the six plus minutes.

You and your other half enjoy a fabulous Christmas!

Hi Nickillus,

Top notch creativity! Amazing orchestration and the vocals add that little twist that makes this all the more surreal.

Interesting Christmas sentiment, perhaps it all depends on what you wish for.

Super job - into my Fav's.

Best Regards,

Stu

A wonderful, amazing and excellent produced christmas song full of emotions. I love it!

Because of your least uploads I´ve downloaded "Daisy" and now I´m experimenting with it. Perhaps I can teach Daisy to sing german?

Big compliments for this great outcome and I wish you a merry christmas!

In short: A tremendously moving track.

Great lyrics, super duper sound and all in all another original trademark production of Nickillus. You know you are being treated with highest quality.

Love it.

Best regards and have a good weekend, Norbert

Hi Nik,

Such a wonderful composition..., I like your haunting bass throughout... The track, to me, is the equivalent of a tales-of-the-unexpected soundscape.., with a touch of eeriness about it...  really is a worthy listen and a favourite posting.. Well done again.

Enjoy the rest of the seasonal break my friend.  All the best, Rob.

Amicalement.

Patrick
