Hi Folks:
"Moanin'" is a composition by pianist, Robert Henry Timmons (aka Bobby Timmons), first recorded by Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers on the (1959) album of the same title.
Bobby Timmons came out of Philadelphia at age 19, with a funky Gospel-tinged piano style, combined with hard Bebop and Blues to create a sound which dominated much of Jazz during the late 1950s and early 1960s. He would, in a recording career that would only span a short time frame, contribute to some of the best recordings on the legendary Blue Note sessions of the ’50’s.
Sadly, Timmons died at the very tender age of 38 in New York City on March 1, 1974.
So, here is our humble homage to this venerable Jazz standard.
