I have just finished mixing this for a hiphop track. I am not quite happy with the way it sounds so was asking for feedback or commentary for ways to improve the track.
I do like this Mesh-up between HipHop rhythms and Rock guitars (as you know).
Here's my thoughts:
I might put the speed up a bit - sounds like 90bpm, but then the guitar samples seem to be too "lame" - tried it myself before.
I would go for at least 100bpm or 105bpm and try playing it again.
Certainly, a fitting bassline would be good as well (or maybe it's there? I am sitting at my laptop with crappy sound, apologies).
The guitar riffs themselves are a good choice in my ears. Maybe it would also be good to vary the drums in the more "Solo" like sections, gives it a bit of a more outstanding character to the rest.
That's really all I can say at the moment from here - will be back on Thursday evening, so that I can listen in with proper headphones. Maybe you got a new version of it up, then.
Thx for your invite to listen.
Best regards, Norbert

hallo martin,
ich kann kein engl. lesen und so weiter,
jedoch finde ich diesen soundtrack für eine gelungene sache, da wo er, in welches stück auch immer passt.
also mir gefällt er ausgezeichnet.
passt zu vielen sachen im filmgeschäft, denn da habe ich schon schlimmeres gehört.
Sounds like a great effort to me Martin. Norbert's suggestions seem solid to me, if you want to bring a bit more impact into the mix. Not that I can claim to be any sort of expert about mixes.
I happened to see an entry of yours on someone's guestbook page that I was leaving an entry on and decided to stop by and listen to some of your contributions. If I may...offer a few suggestions as well:
You have a great start here...very impressive. First, after you break everything down, at about :53 in, maybe try switching your drum rhythm...similar funky beat, but just a slightly different variation. Carry it through to 1:12. At 1:12 into the song, add in 4 straight bass drum kick beats, then at 1:15, bring your original drum beat back in HEAVY and maybe add a little more synth to fill-in and give it more depth where depth is missing. These are just my suggestions.
It's all about drawing the listener into the core of your song. When you play your song back...close your eyes and listen to it. You will hear and feel exactly where you want you music to build, and where you want it to impact the listener. I like what you have done so far. This is going to be great once you get it finished.
It honestly sounds pretty good to me. The beat is simple but it works with everything else and it never gets boring. One thing I personally would change is the deep, rumbling synth-bass sounds. I think it's good for short sections but perhaps if it keeps going too long it ends up more like white noise. That's just me though; I noticed that Norbert says just the opposite.
Whatever you may change, I look forward to hearing the next version.
Well done bro!!! As a drummer, I would have put in more variety with the kick; some doubles and triples to funk it up and make it bounce a bit more, which a piece like this deserves. Overall, I love it though. You're doing great work man!!!
A nice groovy blues hip hop hybrid vibe you got going. I would suggest changing the dynamics of the bass in the verses. [it sounds really low and muted] a bit more eq on the higher end maybe. Get it up front a little bit more.
and maybe accentuating the drums a bit more. Give em a bit more oomph. But the song has a pretty cruisy groove to it. So maybe this is not needed at all. Just tinker and test. and as somone else pointed out here. Just listen deeply, feel the musical vibe and let it guide you to its natural progression.
It's all subjective in the end. I like heavier music so I like the backbone instruments [drum, bass, guitar] to be more in your face. The guitar mix is fine though.
Still. Its fine as it is. A nice groovy tune. Lets hear the rhymes to complete it!
