The Scene Detection feature in VEGAS automatically identifies scenes based on when you turn your camera on and off and imports the scenes as stand-alone clips. How to turn Scene Detection on:

DV scene detection 

1. Go to "Project" > "Capture Video" > "DV".
2. In the Video Capture window, go to "Options" > "Preferences".
3. Open the "Capture" tab and enable the option "Enable DV scene detection".

HDV scene detection 

• Go to "Project" > "Capture Video" > "HDV".
• In the Video Capture window, click the "Capture Preferences" button.
• In the Video Capture window, go to "Options" > "Preferences".
• Open the "General" tab and enable the option "Enable HDV scene detection".

When scene detection is enabled, VEGAS will automatically treat each scene as a stand-alone clip. The scene clips can be found under the Project Media tab.
