You do not need to uninstall a previous version. (I have several versions on my PC.)
Did the familiar F9 fix fail to restore the preview window?
Did you try File > Settings > Reset program settings to defaults?
Presumably this happens with any video imported? Or any previous project loaded?
BTW, I assume you meant MEP 2021, not 2012!

Without knowing your computer specification - please post see this topic for details required.
Try turning off the 2 Hardware acceleration options in the programs Settings, Import/Export tab.
If this works, please do post your computer specifications - there are potentially more issues to be aware of.

Thanks for the computer specification.
The minimum version of Windows that Movie Edit Pro 2021 requires is Windows 8. Windows 7 is not supported.
Additionally if you are going to be working with video of 2.7K, 4K or higher resolution the computer is below the minimum specification required, it will work with 2.7K and 4K video, however editing it will be slower and Preview playback will not be smooth.

Usually if there is no audio in MP4 or Wmv files, it could be a codec issue.

In addition to making sure you do not have hardware acceleration turned on as before make sure you also do not use Direct X in the project setup. Use the Videoforwindows option instead.

Can you provide a MediaInfo analysis of the MP4 and WMV file which are not giving any audio - copy and paste the results from the Text view of MediaInfo into a comment.

Thanks for the MediaInfo information.
The video - is Variable Framerate (VFR) which causes issues with many video editors which need Constant frame rate (CFR) video.
In this particular video, the range is very high, varying from 5 fps to 30.7 fps as shown below
This needs converting to CFR using a converter such as Handbrake, however with such a wide range there is no guarantee that the video will be free from some issues.
If you use Handbrake these are the settings to specify for the conversion
Check that the audio settings - arrowed - are the same as below. In the image below it should say AAC where it says AC3

Are you referring to the Quality RF setting?
If so this is not a %age setting, it is a ratio setting - minimum is 0 (lossless) to 50%.
The value 22 is the optimum for 1920 * 1080 video for quality vs file size - for more information see here.

I confess I have never had to revert to having to use HandBrake. My inquiries have been purely to try to understand more about the program. I have started to try to absorb the information in John EB's link to the HandBrake manual.
Rereading the post from the beginning though means if @Janusz-Gwozdziewicz is attempting to run MEP 2016 on a Win 10 installation it may very well not work. Especially with problematic files.

Your processor does not have n Intel GPU that MEP 2021 can use so you would have to turn off any hardware acceleration and not use Direct X but VideoForWindows. Meaning everything has to be done at a software level to work correctly.
Please remember Magix post the minimum specs for a machine and all of the specs listed should be present for a relatively smooth experience. Preferably the specs should exceed the minimum specs for a fault free experience.
Even then variable frame rate video will still have to be converted to constant frame rate.

Correct me if I'm wrong but not having an Intel GPU surely doesn't prevent MEP 2021 from using Hardware Acceleration for playback or Standard Mode for the video mode? Hardware Encoding granted.
