Update (the sequel)......again, just in case anyone else has encountered this problem So, the issue has returned (pretty much crashing every time I remove or change a VST on a track in projects) I only use VST3 versions of any 3rd party

Thank you John. I did manage to solve it by locating which track the phantom audio was on (track 1) which occurred at a particular time. I added a new track below that and then moved all tracks to that. Once track 1 had nothing on it I deleted it.
