    RE: MEP error messages
@emmrecs, @CubeAce The 704 x 576 video resolution is for Video CD (VCD) discs. @jak.willis Are you trying to put VCD video on to a DVD?  If so is the project also set to 704 x 576?If so then set the project to 720 x 576 Standard PAL DVD and try

    RE: MEP error messages
Hi. Where, in the world, are you? I ask because "Standard" DVD export is either 720 x 480 (NTSC) or 720 x 576 (PAL). Your format of 704 x 576 is one I have never come across before and may be the reason that MEP is unable to use Smart Render/Smart

    MEP error messages
I was preparing to burn some videos to DVD in MEP, but came across some error messages that I’ve never seen before. The video files are VOB’s, and the resolution is 704x576. I hadn’t touched the videos in the timeline, no trims or edits or anything.

RE: How to re-encode without losing any quality
@Richard-hardy Hi . . . . it is absolutely impossible to re-encode an MPEG-2 (VOB) file without losing quality? . . . . Assuming we are referring Perceived, ie visual quality, then the slight loss of quality, as I have commented before, depends on

Hi, so basically it is absolutely impossible to re-encode an MPEG-2 (VOB) file without losing quality? I bet you aren't going to be able to see the loss in quality. Maybe if you re-encode several times you might begin to see it. I think you are

RE: How to re-encode without losing any quality
I'm sure I will get slapped for this, but here goes :-) Ask yourself what the word encoding means and what the primary job of an encoder is. It is to reduce the file size of information while trying to retain detail. Raw data from a sensor is not

RE: How to re-encode without losing any quality
@Richard-hardy . . . . How do you edit an MPEG-2 (VOB) video file then encode it while keeping the quality exactly the same? . . . . Surely it should work if you match the bitrates? . . . . That depends on the edits you make, and if Smart render

How to re-encode without losing any quality
How do you edit an MPEG-2 (VOB) video file then encode it while keeping the quality exactly the same? I’ve read that to retain the original quality, you need to match the export bitrate with the source bitrate. Is this true? It would make sense.

    RE: Smart Render/source file confusion
@Richard-hardy Hi I have to agree with Peter - the VOB and mpg are identical, the somewhat insignificant differences are probably due to the way the VOB and mpg bitrate data is calculated. If you do the calculations based on the bitrates of the 2

    RE: Smart Render/source file confusion
@Richard-hardy Those figures are so close that I would not question that there is a difference. What puzzles me more is that the exported file has Mpeg2 Audio instead of AC-3! What was set in the export template and did you use the default Intel

    RE: Smart Render/source file confusion
@Richard-hardy Hi Hopefully the 2 topics I linked indicated to you that Smart Copy / Render is somewhat finicky in when it will occur and under what conditions and that if MEP says it is going to use them, it sometimes it does not and re-renders

    RE: Smart Render/source file confusion
The export settings I used were exactly the same as the source's. They are VOB files that I have taken off a miniDVD disc because I wanted to make some light edits. I am using MediaInfo to do the comparing, and that is where I'm seeing the

@james-n2529 What was the source of the VOB files that you ripped? Was it a DVD that you had originally created or was it a "commercial" (i.e. bought) one? I ask because it says “reader denied Smart Copy”. What does this mean and why does it say

@terrypin Hi Terry . . . . I don’t fully understand is why this happens only with the menus . . . . As I see it, menus, unless containing active video, are static images incorporated into a very short video, as low as 1 frame, clip ie the first VOB

Is M2TS the same as AVCHD? Sometimes. But not always. M2TS is usually done with an AVC codec. But m2ts files on a Blu-ray disc could be anything that is Blu-ray format compliant. For example if you put a compliant SD vob or mpeg2 file on a Blu-ray
