RE: VHS capture quality is very poor
@AAProds @cmclernon Just a quick word on head cleaning. Do not use any isopropyl alcohol as it is not pure enough. Normally isopropyl alcohol pure enough for tape head cleaning of film cleaning is at least 99.9% pure and you get it in 250ml and

RE: VHS capture quality is very poor
@cmclernon Regarding files sizes for digital capture of the VHS analog signal. To my mind I would want to use a non lossy codec that would give each individual pixel when digitized it's own set of values and not be grouped with its nearest neighbors

RE: captured video very poor quality while playback on TV is perfect
@Ove5868 Hi . . . . Any idea what i am doing wrong ? . . . . AFAICS you are doing nothing wrong, you do not see the 'wavy edges' on a TV playing 'analog' video because there is up to 5% of the image being cropped from the sides - this was necessary

RE: captured video very poor quality while playback on TV is perfect
@CubeAce @CubeAce When you record the video you must get the interleaving correct at the recording stage or it will never show correctly as the interleave is 'baked' into the recording and altering the field order after in playback will only make

RE: VHS capture quality is very poor
@AAProds Hi Al. In the UK isopropyl alcohol is never sold as 100% proof as unless the container is glass, (as used to be sold to the film industry) some container material can leach into the fluid over time. When I had to work with isopropyl alcohol

RE: captured video very poor quality while playback on TV is perfect
@Ove5868 To answer the question what TV I used : A Samsung 55" ... 3 years old. The picture, as expected, was grainy but it didn't have the "flagging" or waviness to it, nor was the "pink noise" showing on the screen. It also looked like the two

@CubeAce @cmclernon The use of a TBC. Does it specifically deal with the cross hatch moving pattern we see in this video or does it do more?   Is its job to line up the top bottom fields more precisely or have something to do with timing or

@AAProds Hi Al. Please forgive me for interrupting but you have piqued my curiosity on this subject now as I am all about trying to preserve quality of any transfer or if possible even enhancing it. So I have a few questions. The use of a TBC. Does

@cmclernon I'm back. 😉 Could you download the Video Easy PDF manual (for Movie Studio, it's on the Help menu>Download PDF manual) and post it on Google Drive for us. I'm assuming that the actual program you're using is Video Easy; the name of the

    RE: Recording analogue video
@cmclernon You might be able to use it as a TBC for your VHS tapes in passthrough mode ie VCR>Camera>Videosaver stick. Upon reflection, this won't work in your case as you won't be able to have inputs and outputs together.

    RE: Recording analogue video
"TBC" is a time base corrector. It tidies up all the dodgy tape signals coming for the VCR. There are two types. The first is a line TBC. This corrects the wavy images (evidenced by the wobbly edges). High-end VCRs have Line TBCs incorporated. A lot

    RE: Recording analogue video
Hello again. Yes, that's certainly an improvement! 1. I'm using an old Daewoo Blue Diamond Model Q812PI with a composite scart adapter cable. 2. I captured using the MXV codec, then exported in MP4 format. This MP4 file is the one I shared with you.

    RE: Recording analogue video
@cmclernon Got that. I think I'll be having nightmares tonight! 🙂 The first thing of note is the wobbly right edge. This is a classic characteristic of VHS. It's fixed by using a line TBC, either in the VCR itself, or an external TBC. Those wobbles

    RE: Recording analogue video
@cmclernon Assuming you're capturing VHS-type analogue video, the normal frame rates are 25fps for PAL and 29.97 for NTSC.

@DonVido Well. it seems that this is a video card memory problem. My video adapter has only 512 MB VRAM which is not enough. The program spec say at least 1024 MB VRAM i needed. Vido, I know I'm using MEP 2022 but I assume the basic program engine
