RE: How to re-encode without losing any quality
@johnebaker Thank you for such a comprehensive explanation of the GOP structure. This explains why in the manual it states that cuts made may be out by a few frames when joined. (I think if I'm reading this correctly). The structure itself is also

RE: How to re-encode without losing any quality
@Richard-hardy Hi . . . . it is absolutely impossible to re-encode an MPEG-2 (VOB) file without losing quality? . . . . Assuming we are referring Perceived, ie visual quality, then the slight loss of quality, as I have commented before, depends on

RE: How to re-encode without losing any quality
I'm sure I will get slapped for this, but here goes :-) Ask yourself what the word encoding means and what the primary job of an encoder is. It is to reduce the file size of information while trying to retain detail. Raw data from a sensor is not

I know this thread is 3+years old, but I'd like to show my appreciation for all the contributors - I wanted to find out how to make a timelapse video from a sequence of photos, and set them all to 1 frame duration. This thread showed me how to do

Xara Designer Pro X 15.1.1.54376 - catalogue of woes
Where do I start? The help system only vaguely resembles the product - as if the help was produced for an older version but nobody ever got round to updating for newer versions. 1st issue - the online catalogue no longer works, simply a dialog box

RE: Incomplete removal of borders when using Magix stabilization module
If it is too steady after analysis has run, just move the zoom slider to the left and this will reduce the zoom and subsequent correction amount. I did try that, but then, at the same zoom level as Magix stabilizer, the latter performed better and

RE: Incomplete removal of borders when using Magix stabilization module
Thanks for the video clips - I installed the Lagarith codec and tested the stabilisation with Mercalli v2 - I had to use MEP 2019 as my 2016 installation only has Mercalli v4 - and this is the before and after result of a default settings analysis,

Another major advantage in using Magix internal stabilizer is the possibility of manually correcting some frames when, even after several attempts with different parameters, a particularly tricky shot – for instance a person walking right in front

    RE: Bitrates Question
@Former user From there I then re-encoded that same file using that same maximum bitrate, using CBR. And the resulting file seemed identical (quality-wise). Yes, but the output file would have been a lot bigger than if you used VBR as CBR wastes

Whoops......how did I get into this thread or are we commenting about a comment I made in another thread?? Anyhow, I agree with Roger and John in that "the proof is in the pudding" especially as you are dealing with a total available MPEG2 bitrate

RE: Frame rate and selecton alignment are wrong for US standard videos
Detelecining can be done using VirtualDub2 or the older VirtualDub. The function to do it is IVTC with frame rate reduction which is done to 23.976. That number is selected automatically. This works well for properly telecined NTSC DVD or VHS videos

Frame rate and selecton alignment are wrong for US standard videos
I am editing a video which has the standard US frame rate for movies of 23.976 and is 75 minutes long. If I try to export a section as an AVI and select the codec, MEP changes the frame rate to 23.98. Then when I continue, MEP says the frame rate
