RE: [Closed] DVD copy quality
Hi @emmrecs Thanks again for your advice. I changed to MPEG2 on the laptop I was using, and it did seem to improve but still not great. So I decided to revert to an older laptop which had built in DVD, to take out one more cable with an external

RE: VHS Transfer and Editing Inquiry
@browj2 Hi John Unfortunately, the VCR does not have an S-Video output. I was sure that I had another VCR somewhere with S-Video. It works well. Does it? I am a bit surprised you would get any benefit unless the tape was recorded as Super VHS. My

@hdrechsel18 @emmrecs seriously consider whether it would be worth you investing in something like one of the Canopus (Grass Valley) range of hardware analogue to digital video convertors. This will allow you to convert the analogue footage from the

RE: VHS Transfer and Editing Inquiry
@hdrechsel18 OK, I will immediately "declare an interest" in this thread, since I do this sort of work "professionally", i.e. clients pay me to transfer VHS (and other types of analogue and digital footage) to DVD. To me, the most "critical" part of

Thanks John, I was looking at VPX, unfortunately my budget is a little tight these days, so I just upgraded my Premium package (2020). That Neat Video plugin looks like a winner. I'll look further into that - I assume it works with MEP? I have

VHS Transfer and Editing Inquiry
I'm involved in a rather large project (Christmas gift for my brother): he gave me three 120 minute VHS tapes of his vacation trip to Alaska, that he would like me to place on a DVD for him. Simple enough, but I'm also working on a production that

RE: [Closed] DVD copy quality
@Mike-Gannon I'll be very interested to hear what the finished product looks like when using the MPEG-2 codec! As for alternative software - I'm not going to recommend any non-Magix product since I have no experience of using any other

RE: [Closed] DVD copy quality
Thanks Jeff. I will try that. As you can tell I am very inexperienced at this, and have just been selecting the defaults. The software did not suggest changed to MPEG-2 for DVD quality. Failing that I may have to look at alternative software, as I

Having problems with the quality of the MP4 output, which is inferior to the MVY copy. I have copied from a VHS source onto a laptop using S-Video and component cables (red, yellow, white). Whilst the original video quality is poor, as expected, the

RE: [Closed] DVD copy quality
Thanks @AAProds and Scenestealer, very helpful. Pardon my ignorance, but what is MEP, and MZV User Defined? I am using "Rescue your video Tapes" and this is not clear. Not sure there were many options when recording the VHS to computer. I see

RE: [Closed] DVD copy quality
@Mike-Gannon I agree with @AAProds Do not capture direct to MPEG2 DVD quality. Use a higher resolution and bitrate format and do some cleaning up in MEP first, perhaps even using Vitual DUB VHS filters, then export down to DVD quality. The noise and

RE: [Closed] DVD copy quality
@Mike-Gannon I used S-Video rather than Scart - does this make a difference, positive or negative? Absolutely use the S-video output from your player. VHS is terrible to work with; you need as much going for you as possible. Stepping back to the

Your DVD shouldn't look worse than your VHS copy. What type of file is your VHS copy, it's image size and bitrate?

RE: video and sound captured magix sent out of sync
@mark-perry Mark, re the first, I think you're being a bit harsh criticising MEP not capturing that VHS properly. That tape recording looks seriously corrupted and probably needs to be run through a TBC (Time-Based Corrector) between the VCR and the
