  I've found the answer. It looks like the instrument editor crashed in some way. I'll attach a screenshot. To fix it I just opened the MIDI editor then opened the instrument editor. Then I was able to reset it by selecting the instrument type.

  No, this feature is intentionally missing. It works in Samplitude Music Studio. There is a workaround. Create a non-looping MIDI-Object over your whole song. Place the red playback line at the beginning of a small midi object. Open the MIDI editor.

  I found that I was choosing the wrong MIDI settings when I linked it to independence to have audio and MIDI on one track. It was the first option rather than the second that was used in the tutorial video, which worked with my Focusrite ASIO driver.
