How to zoom in while staying in restrains of cropped image
hi! my take consists of several video footages being played at the same time while each of them is cropped so they do not overlap, nor do i use any alpha layers or smthin similiar. the screen in my preview vindow basically looks like consisting

RE: Mental model for working with alpha masks?
I think of masks as mirrors with some areas of silver removed -- you see what's in front (higher number track)  Bingo! You're a star, Carl, that's exactly what I was looking for. (I wasn't far out with my tentative conjecture earlier,

RE: Mental model for working with alpha masks?
I'll jump in with an image which I hope shows clearly the Magix track viewing convention -- Looking UP through tracks from higher to lower numbers as if they were planes of a model stage set. Of course you would only see the front wall track

RE: Mental model for working with alpha masks?
Thanks John, but the penny still hasn't dropped for me. How does that help me to visualise what's happening in the example I specified? And are you saying that you think of it 'bottom up' only when alpha is involved? -- Terry, East Grinstead, UK

RE: Mental model for working with alpha masks?
Hi John, I'm going to have to read that again in the morning a few times, after a large coffee! But right now I still don't grasp how I can see anything if the highest track number (the 'top' layer) contains a simple image or video. It's opaque.

RE: Mental model for working with alpha masks?
Hi Terry It does, however I think of it as 'what does it let show through from a lower track number', So in your example, depending on where the black is, whatever is on a lower track number will show through. If the Alpha mask is on track

RE: Mental model for working with alpha masks?
Thanks John, didn't know that. But it doesn't affect my question about an alpha object does it? Am I right about alpha adding transparency to objects in tracks above it (i.e. higher track numbers)? That still seems the only way I can square what

Mental model for working with alpha masks?
I've got a block about how to visualise alpha masks in MEP that's driving me nuts and I'm hoping that someone can set me straight please! I think of MEP tracks as layers. If two opaque objects are placed in tracks 1 and 2 you will only see the

RE: How can I blur the video as in imitating the unfocus lens effect?
Hi The only effects applied are:- Video on track 1: Effects, Video Effects, Sharpness, Artistic Blur.  you only need a very small value - in the example it was set to 6 Mask on track 2: Effects, Video Effects, Chroma key, Alpha and

Hello Terry  ! The problem with gradually coming and vanishing letters are solved. I used a black/white mask with a short gradient with a length of half the background photo,  and zoomed it out with Size/Position so much that the black part

Hi Michael Here is an image of the timeline which will do what you want with a moving person : The white circle on a black background mask is much larger than the video image to allow for movement,  in this case it was 3840 x 2160 px ie

I'd suggest trying something like: Track 1-- The background video clip Track 2 -- Your standard MEP title, with 'Video Effects' >> 'Chroma key' >> 'Alpha' applied Track 3 -- A jpeg etc of a plain field of green shades using a

RE: Where do you really need a video editing software ?
Vesku, I beg to differ. You make a valid point about 'follywood' style if you are producing narrative videos which require trimming and sorting and a minimum of effects. But I use MEP for something complete different and Magix provides a superb

    RE: This Effect
Hi Anirban, It kind of depends on what you want to do with it from a motion point of view.  If you want the guy running and the fire/explosion to be part of the motion, I would film the running guy on green or blue screen, use a alpha channel

Hi, Here is a good definition of Chroma key and how to use it.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chroma_key Basically you take one image filmed on blue or green screen background, use chroma key to remove the background and insert that image into

Not a collage (yet) but I've got it in one go!  Each of the clips is reduced to 50% size and keyframed for start and end positions. Note that naming the masks as '..._alpha.jpg' will get effect applied automatically. Now to figure the

    RE: Colour and Black -n-White
To do this to a video you would have to edit frame-by-frame. That would be a lot of editing... which I think would be to much to do for anyone at this level. If the item in the video was centered at all times I could see using a alpha effect
