Hi everyone, I just bought Premium 2022 and I'm learning it. Quick question... I imported a video and moved the audio slider of the audio (middle of clip slider). How do I get it back to the default import. Is that 0 db? Thanks.
Thanks. I had Magix about 10 years ago but barely used it. I upgraded recently for the Travel Maps. I've figured them out and I'm now figuring out the main software. Had some issues with the installation of the NewBlue plug-ins and its app. manager but I got it registered and working this morning. Great! As for the audio, I guess I will always check my audio's default level first. It shows 0.0. All is fine. Thanks.
The audio level is always 0 upon import. It is a relative fader - just like in the Mixer where the starting value is always 0.
To help you get going faster, I suggest that you watch the tutorials listed in this thread. Since you already have the program up and running, you can start with Getting Started Part 3.
Thanks, John. I originally thought that fader was db but it's relative as you say. That makes sense. Thanks for the link. I will go over the tutorials. I have some spare time. I watched one 50 minute tutorial on YT this morning. That helped me get some basics like that volume slider but I need to know a lot more about audio cause it seems there are A LOT of audio options including mastering in this software.
I also don't understand why there are orange and blue bars on the corners of the clips. Transitions?
I'm also not sure how to remove effects that are applied and one can see their names after the clip's filename. I also tried to do a "black matte" image with background (custom) but it made it only a square size and not 1920x1080 like the project default.
Haha. I found out where to remove effects in that keyframing thin window. It's hard to make that bigger. I added a color video into the "Old TV" template and I wanted it not to be in black and white so I figured it out to remove the effects and it's color again! I'd better get to those tutorials.
If you want the file to be played up to 0db at its peak volume in the timeline then you should select Normalize in the drop-down list when you right click a file. Even then, if the volume is too low (lower than -20db) then it may not give you 0dbm or the noise floor may become too loud.
Also, I just started the tutorials, but I also figured out about the orange and blue transitions bars on the clips, and how to take a gradient background and turn the opacity to 0 to get a full size black background. I'm cooking this morning!!! Somebody stop me!!! haha I like that everything I want is there in the program!
Unless you need something more than basic effects, most of what anyone needs can be found or worked around in the program.
Never be afraid to ask questions but possibly use the search topic button first.
Anything relating to setting up the program normally needs complete PC specifications shown in your signature (comes up blue at the base of each reply once added to) as well please. The more detail the better ,and possibly the more accurate a reply will be.
Thanks Ray. I just updated my signature in a basic way. I didn't even notice that at the bottom of the posts. Man, you guys are serious about your hardware! I always search and go through recent messages and Google before posting. Though, I only signed up here this morning but I had Magix back in 2010, mainly for the travel maps that had a different software name back then. It sounded Portuguese like Gamma da....
I have used Premiere Pro since 2011 (I'm an intermediate user) but I don't want to pay the high price of the CC subscription anymore that I barely use and I kept it going mainly for Audition that I really like. So, I'm downsizing from CC, but I will keep the monthly sub. for Audition. I did buy the latest Elements suite 2022.
I like Magix too!!! I love the travel maps! Magix has nice templates that I have used back in 2010 like the beer rising. haha I'm glad it's still in the program.
I'm a musician and I have both a Sibelius Ultimate subscription and Finale. I also have Cakewalk which is now free after all those years of paying for Sonar. haha It's all good.
Only as serious as our pockets allow 😉. Video editing is probably the most demanding application to eating up processing power with DAW applications being second. Most of us replying to posts here I would guess describing ourselves as hobbyists rather than professional videographers. There are no replies directly from Magix staff here except where you see Topics posted by 'MAGIX_Redaktion'. Normally posting to the news section with new update news only.
Despite my avatar name I only dabble with audio music production and I am definitely not talented enough to be described as a musician.
Ray, I'm not broke or rich either. I still have a few funds. haha No worries mate, I'm a first class video amateur and vodka drinker. haha I like hanging around the knowledgeable hobbyist crowd.
I see you are into MIDI. That makes you already in my good books. haha
I think you beat me hands down. I first started with an audio DAW (Cubase) with Win 98. Everything snowballed from there until finally stopping with Cubase 4 as it is still working and still fills my meager requirements. MIDI timing is still reasonable or at least faster than my finger movements 😂,
Cubase 4 I think is close to the end of its life within Win 10. It's only using one processor core but it got me into other editing packages in general. First with photography and now video as well.
I hope you enjoy your experience with video editing as much as I have.
Thanks Ray. I like you. I didn't beat you hands down. We just followed different paths. I remember Cubase bigtime. I'm older than you and I only bought a computer to do MIDI and notation scores back in 1989 which was crazy. I only got into audio recording in 1998 and video editing in 2001. It seems now Windows 10 and now Windows 11 are killing old software.
I love doing video editing so I use both Magix and Elements 2022.

Hi Petey.
Windows upgrades killed all of my dedicated sound cards and my full sized Roland PC 300 keyboard first. I loved my Yamaha sound card with built in DX7 synth and effects.
I do not miss having to use MIDI OX for MIDI connections.
Not so sure about age differences. I know my avatar looks young but looks can be deceiving.
Interesting blog. I'm definitely older by some margin but put that down to me being a late developer 😆.
I too liked Person of Interest although some of the plot lines got a bit tangled and competing AIs with one tracing and one hiding? How would one get actual construction done with no-one to sign documents on site? Talking as one surrounded by public surveillance cameras in the UK though I see its appeal.
