A little confused with software "Naming Convention"

Hi Magix Gurus,

I own both "Movie Edit Pro 16 Plus" and "Movie Edit Pro 2016 Plus". The first refuses to run on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and the second runs on this platform, but super slowwwwww.....It seems that my PC is not too adequate for the second one, however, this is not my question since I think I know already the system requirements.

My real question is: What is the difference between these two versions (besides de "20" missing in the first one I mentioned)?

The "Movie Edit Pro 16 Plus" runs fine on my Windows 7 32-bit machine, but does not run on my Windows 10 Pro 64-bit PC. I purchased this version back in 2010 and the second one (the Movie Edit Pro 2016 Plus) I purchased in 2016.

This software versioning is a bit odd and confusing.I recently applied a patch for "Movie Edit Pro 16 Plus" by mistake to "Movie Edit Pro 2016 Plus" and now it seems that it is not working properly!! :( :(

If these two versions are different, why did you guys named it that way? You successfully managed to confuse your users!!

Thank you for clarifying this confusing part of this wonderful software (I really like it, the more I use it, the more I like it), although creating a decent DVD menu and burning my project onto a DVD media is a pain, but this issue is for another topic :)

Hi,

Firstly, note that we're users, not Magix employees. Can't remember the last contribution we had here from Magix Support. So you'd need to ask Magix "why did you guys named it that way?"

Movie Edit Pro (MEP) has been available for a long time in many versions. My first was MEP 10, I'm guessing maybe 2008/9. It progressed roughly annually through 11, 12, (missed 13), 14, 15, 16. I believe your version 16 dates from 2012. Then 17, MX (alias 18) followed by the switch to roughly match the year, giving us 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016. Followed by the rather hazy change to today's apparently 'yearless' versions.

So the short answer to your question "What is the difference between these two versions?" is: about five years. Amongst the consequences of that I think you've already identified the main one: it won't run reliably or at all under Windows 10.

Hi

. . . . I recently applied a patch for "Movie Edit Pro 16 Plus" by mistake to "Movie Edit Pro 2016 Plus" and now it seems that it is not working properly! . . . .

That is not possible.

Did you download and apply the patch from within the program? If not how did you download the patch?

Did you restart the computer after installing the patch? IE: Windows button, Power, Restart

. . . . The "Movie Edit Pro 16 Plus" runs fine on my Windows 7 32-bit machine, but does not run on my Windows 10 Pro 64-bit . . . .

MEP 16 is not compatible with Windows 10 and will not run. The differences between Windows 7 and 10 are very significant - the parts of Windows that MEP 16 expects to be there are either very different or not present at all - Microsoft remove a lot of old legacy code from Windows 10.
