ACCESS_VIOLATION error in Magix Video deluxe Premium 2020

Jan-Mol wrote on 9/18/2020, 10:38 AM

I am running Magix Video deluxe Premium 2020 now for a few month on an ASUS desptop PC with windows 10. Now installed a new video card NVIDIA Geforce GT1030. Since now on starting Magix Video deluxe it gives a "ACCESS_VIOLATION" message due to "error in xxx.dll". After this message the program stops (crashes). What can I do about this.

@Jan-Mol

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

First, can you give us the full text of the error message; we really need to know exactly what the xxx.dll is!

Second, did the problem first begin immediately after you installed the new GPU? If so, can you remove it, temporarily at least, and then try again to run MEP/VdL? If it runs without the video card installed that would suggest a conflict between MEP/VdL and the GPU which may well need the assistance of Magix Support to resolve. If it still doesn't run then the information requested below will be invaluable.

So, can you please read this post and give us ALL the information requested there? It may take some time for you to collect it all but it will help we fellow-users to assist you more directly.

Dear Jeff,

The above problem of crashing Magix Video deluxe Premium 2020 did occur directly after installing my new video card NVIDIA Geforce GT1030. As you mentioned I removed this weekend the new card so that the screen connects again to the build in one and the Magix video editer works okee again (although slow; that's the reason I installed the new external video card). After installing again the new video card my Magix Video deluxe Premium 2020 crashes again. The only option afterwards is to "close the program". On trying to continue, the program closes itself .

Here are the requested data:

Desktop PC: Asus with Intel Core i3-7100 CPU 3.90 GHz, 8 GB RAM DDR4, 64 bit system

Windows 10 version 2004 (build 19041.508, installed 10-8-2020) All updates available installed.

Screen resolution: 1920x1080

Screenshot of crash pop-up:

This is a copy of the log file after it crashed (each time opening the program the crash log is exactly the same).

@Jan-Mol

Hi

The programs issue is with the Intel drivers for the processors integrated GPU the Graphics HD 630 - this may be caused by the installation of the GT 1030 disabling the Intel GPU.

If you are installing the NVidia solely for Video deluxe Premium 2020, then you are not going to gain anything as it cannot use the GT 1030 for hardware acceleration either for preview or exporting to mp4, AVCHD or HEVC video.

Upgrading to VDL 2021 which has the new Infusion 2 engine, that can use a NVidia card, may not work with the GT 1030 - it is below the minimum specification required and would, if it can be utilised, only accelerate the preview playback if there are mp4, AVCHD or HEVC video on the timeline.

Unless you are gaming, the HD 630 is a good performer - providing VDL if set up correctly and the source video resolutions are not higher than Full HD 1920 x 1080.

  1. You use Proxy files - these are lower resolution video files created on import which do not need so much processor power for playback, they are not used in the final export - you do need sufficient free disc space for these files.

  2. The lightning symbol bottom right of the preview monitor is turned on ie blue.

Note: 2.7K or 4K video is going to make the computer struggle with these higher resolution formats as it is below the recommended specifications for the resolution videos.
