activation of HEVC codec failed

patrick-conroy wrote on 6/3/2021, 7:35 AM

After renewing Movie Edit Pro Premium (2021 - 20.0.1.80) for another year about a month ago I am having problems.

Since an original HEVC codec had disappeared from the program I obtained a new activation code from Magix Sales (and then bought a further one !).

Each time I try to activate (using either of the 2 new codes) I get the response :-

"activation of HEVC codec failed. If using as a guest then try again after signing in with administrator rights"

I have tried with administrator rights, have disabled Avast anti-virus, have disabled Zone Alarm firewall, have uninstalled Magix and deleted folders and then reinstalled (twice) - Still with same failure.

Other info, Windows 10 Pro Build 19042 on Dell Inspiron 5675, RAM 16gb, AMD Ryzen 7

Other peculiarities - since renewing about a month ago I notice

1 My Magix Account products show 2 x Movie Edit Pro Premium - the original version from 2018 and an additional one from Apr 2021

2 Every time I start the program the "installation manager" pops up - even though all the options are ticked as installed.

Appreciate any suggestions

Thks Pat Conroy

Hi

. . . . have disabled Avast anti-virus, have disabled Zone Alarm firewall . . . .

In disabling Zone Alarm you may have activated Windows Defender firewall, check this is turned off as well.

Item 1 - did you buy and upgrade at some point in time - though so long as the serial numbers and download links are there I would not worry about it.

Item 2 - see this comment.

John EB - thanks for responding and your suggestion.

Just now tried again (run as Admin, Avast, Zone Alarm, Windows Defender - all off)

Unfortunately still same response.

re item 1 - I think you might be on to something - having 2x Movie Edit Pro Premium suggests I might have bought new instead of straightforward update. Are you aware of any tool that would do a complete uninstall (including all folders and registry entries) in case the "guest " bit is picking up something from the original installation rather than the newer one.

re item 2 - thank you - I had just discovered your solution after I posted my message. It solved that problem for me too.

Re-installing is always an issue when trying to resolve a problem and should be a last resort. Once a program is run it may create files, folders and registry entries that are left by the uninstaller as it know nothing about them.

We recommend Revo Uninstaller free which has the capability of searching for the left overs, however do be careful on what you remove if you have multiple different Magix programs installed.

I have the Pro version and use it to install programs as well - makes a clean removal easy.

@johnebaker

Many thanks - will deactivate Movie Edit Pro Premium and give Revo a go later this evening and then try doing a fresh install.

Update. unfortunately - problem remains - even after complete uninstall/reinstall using Revo and also briefly uninstalling anti virus & firewall and ensuring Windows Defender is off. even briefly switched on Win10 Super Admin to try it but all to no avail.

Hi

Is the HEVC activation code for the earlier version MEP 2018? If so then it will not work for a later version, you need a new code.

@johnebaker

Hi John - yes when I tried the original code from 2018 it rejected it a few days ago.

I then got a new code from Magix and when that gave me the "failure" message I decided to buy another code from Magic (to be sure to be sure !). It is these 2 new codes that keep giving me the "failure" message.

Will keep experimenting over the weekend and see if I can come up with anything. Thanks again for your suggestions.

@patrick-conroy

Hi

Thanks for the clarification - I would fire off a support ticket to Magix in case there is an issue with the registration servers at their end.
