Add a project???

Hi,

You didn't say which version of MEP that you have, and whether basic or Plus/Premium.

There are 2 ways to do what you want.

1. Open several projects into one: Open the first project, then File, Open and select the second project. When the message comes up to Close current project or Add new project, select add new project. This will open a second movie in the project. Do the same with the other 2 projects. You can then go and copy object from the second, third and fourth movies and paste them to the timeline of the first movie.

2. Manage movies: If you happen to have more than one movie in a project and you only want ot import one of them into the new combined movie, export the selected movie by going to File, Manage movies, Export. Then in a new project, import the exported movie(s) which will also open a separate movie for each. You can mix both methods.

John, Thank you for the fast reply. This project has got me up against a clock, and though I've been using Pro X4 for a few years my edits have been pretty basic. This project is also not very involved but I have so much material to go through, 4 cameras and .wav audi import after video edit. I have added new project and my timeline page disappears. I'm wondering if I "saved" projects in the wrong folder? I use the default when I "save as" but see only single timelines or back up versions. When I add or import an 2nd project, where does it go? How do I see the main project window? Thanks you John, Paul

Hi Paul,

I'm using X6, never had X4, but I expect that it's like the previous MEP versions.

I'm not sure as to what you did. When you do as Save as, check the folder location and you will find what you exported.

John, After several attempts to open your links I get an error "dropbox can not be found" .. a redirect for 5 secons then a "resolving", then the error "this page is not available". Please leave them in dropbox and I'll check later in the day. I do so appreciate your time and effort in helping me figure this out .. it's very frustrating. I'm also going throught the manual again to see if something will trigger my mind to gather the concept. Again, thank you John. Paul

John, I can't thank you enough for the time you've give to helping me with my project. After watching your presentation several times I think I've got it. My latest dilemma seems to be the other "saved projects" I want to add are nowhere to be found. They appear in the previously selected menue, they're in the folder but when I click to add they "can not be read". I think when I selected "save as differnt name" I had 3 duplicates of the same segment so I deleted the last 2 .. of course the program is looking for the most recent, 003 which is now gone. I notice many of the display perameters on Pro x6 are the same as Pro x4 but some are differnt, not enough so that I'm totally lost but now I'm considering upgrading.

I'm going to take a break as fatigue is setting in but I'll hit it again in a while. I have a 2nd mission now and that is to not "let you down" as a student and recipient of your efforts toward my project.

Hang in there, you'll get it.

You might want to take a look at this tutorial by John E, Baker about multi-movie projects. It is the same principle but in your case you're just using the other movies to set up everything for one movie.

Note that the movies that you import become part of the new project and you can modify them in the new project without any effect whatsoever on the source movie file. So you can rename them a, b,c d in the project and delete eveything that you don't need from each movie and then copy the remainder to the main movie in the same project.

VPX6 has a new feature that allows you to set up the other movies (within the same project ) to be a part of the main one, and then just import it over to the main movie as one single object with effects all rendered. Any further changes to the soure movie are automatically updated in the main movie. This is a nice feature to have.

Hey J,

Making progress on the project though I never did find out why the new projects did not show up on my timeline with the original project .. I'm wondering if my software is corrupted. Having always been able to move titles up, down, side to side, this function is not working now. I double click on the timeline title box I wish to relocate, the font circles in orange dots and I get the 4 way arrow to move it but when I click on it, it disappears.. I can't move the text. I opened the project in an earlier version of Premium I purchased some years ago, just prior to my upgrade to Pro x4, and it won't allow me to move titiles either. What am I doning wron here? Cancel the last "situation" John, I figured out the titles have to go BELOW the video timeline. All is well. Seems I recall this from a few years ago. This Spring I will upgrade to Pro x6 .. the features you've shown me are so much better. Thank you. Paul
