Add effects to whole track or whole output

Zkuggi wrote on 11/25/2018, 12:31 PM

I am slowly gaining workflow speed in Vegas Pro X. Lot of things I like with this program.

But does anybody know if/how one can add effect to a whole track or the whole output in "one click" solution?

For example when adding LUT filters after a full edit. I cannot find how to do it unless adding LUT filter to every element on my track. That is to slow.

Hi,

As far as I know, there are no track effects for video/images, only audio. However, it is very simple to do what you want. Right-click on the object that has the effect, Copy effects, or use the shortcut - , and select just the effect that you want to copy if there is more than 1 on the list, then select all of the objects that you want to change, right-click on one of them without deselecting the others, and Paste Effects or shortcut Shift+- . Done.

Thank you browj2.

That is a usable workaround.

Find it strange though that a program that wants to position itself in "pro" category does not have this functionality.

HI,

Actually, I have trouble trying to think of a time when I would want to apply a video effect to all video/image clips on a track or in a movie. I believe that it can be done in Vegas, but then the work around needed would be to put "events" that you didn't want to have the effect, on another track.

Then, think about the number of effects that one would apply on a track basis. I would say very few. Movement effects, brightness, gamma, colour, special effects - most likely not as most clips have differences. So, what is left? Even a LUT I most likely wouldn't put on everything on a track. I use multiple cameras. I would have to put these on separate tracks. My work flow would go out the window.

Can you give some examples of where and why you would do this? Maybe there is a case to be made to Magix for a new feature.

Reasonable argument browj2. It is rare that one would want to put same effect on all clips in more complex edits.

But I recognize this feature from Vegas and I think i use it in like 95% of my projects. Usually as I am editing material shot with same setting sfrom the same camera. When I apply LUT or Filmconvert it is very convenient to be able to put the effect on the whole output.

Vegas also tends to render videos slight darker than observed in preview. Known fix to that is to put level effect to bring from computer RBG to sudio RBG. Extremely quick to implement that with this approach.

Guys......Don't forget the Master Effects window from the top menu Effects>Effects Settings Movie which allows you to set and preview overall movie - Brightness, Gamma, Contrast, (includes a colourspace correction), Colour Correction, Sharpness.

Hi Peter,

I always for get about that. This would likely take care of the problem mentioned by Zkuggi about a video being too dark.

The only thing is that you can't apply a LUT to the entire movie, correct?
