Audio/Video sync issues in MAGIX Movie Edit Pro and its successor

Scott-Brown7603 wrote on 7/27/2022, 8:15 PM

Ever since I bought another computer running on Windows 11, I've had Video and Audio sync problems when processing a video with Movie Edit Pro and its successor Movie Studio at 60 frames. I found out that the computer is 5 years old and I'm not sure if the upgrade to Windows 11 or the processor is incompatible with the software. I'm hoping I can find a real fix without having to reconvert the files or do a Windows downgrade.

Greetings @Scott-Brown7603 and welcome to the forum.

To assist you we need a little more information such as Movie Studio version, CPU and GPU. Full details of what is irequired is listed here: https://www.magix.info/us/forum/please-do-the-following-before-posting-your-question--621831/

This extra imformation about your computer and the mediainfo report should hopefully reveal the problem.

I have a suspicion that that the video you are trying to edit is a screen capture or similar with variable frame rate.

Hopefully this information is enough.

Greetings,

Well at least we know what version of MEP you're using, now all we need is your computer detais (preocessor, graphics card, audio card, RAM etc) and the video details from mediainfo.

Without details is like me asking you why my car has an annoying rattle.

Hi Scott.

Your computer may be 5 years old but the processor came out in 2015 and I'm fairly sure your copy of Movie edit Pro can't run on Windows 11 although the processor may be able to cope with the program.

Your pdf manual should tell you which versions of Windows it will run on.

Hi

Technially the Intel HD 530 in the CPU is below the recommended minimum specification for Movie Edit Pro 2021, however it should not be a big issue as it can run DirectX 12, the program will run quiet happily on Windows 11. I have it on my PC running on Windows 11 with no issues.

Given the name of the file this would suggest this is a captured video in which case it is quite likely that the video is variable frame rate which is known to give audio sync issues.

The MediaInfo analysis you have provided does not give us sufficient detail of the video - see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip to get the data required.

In the Video section of the analysis if you see this line:

Frame rate mode                          : Variable

then the video needs converting to Constant frame rate using a video converter such as Handbrake.

Hi John EB,

And, the audio was recorded at 44.1 kHz instead of 48.

Okay, my other question is would getting a new graphics card installed fix this issue, and if so, which one would you recommend? I was thinking about buying a AMD Radeon RX 6400 Low Profile Gaming Graphics Card with 4GB, but I don't know if that would be good enough for video editing.

@Scott-Brown7603

First, did the suggestions made earlier, especially about changing the VFR to CFR help?

As to the question of GPU purchase, I have recently removed a lower-specced AMD Radeon from my computer and replaced it with an NVidia GTX1660 Ti. That has certainly speeded things up for me, but, as you will see from my signature, I have a rather "newer" CPU than you currently have; as others have previously advised, that may be the primary limiting factor for you.

Hi

There are very few users here who have AMD cards, and I know at least one user who has changed over to Nvidia.

IMHO you would be better off getting a Nvidia graphics card eg GTX 1060Ti or better eg GTX 1650 they have a dedicated module for video decoding and encoding.

. . . . a new graphics card installed fix this issue . . . .

Good question - probably not, however, do you have an AMD or Nvidia card in the computer at present and are the drivers up to date?
