Please advise how I can automatically remove spaces between clips. There must be a function to do this that I am just not seeing. I often have 40 clips and it is annoying to go in and remove the spaces manually. Thanks!
For the current project you will have to do this manually.
For future projects ensure that you have the Mouse mode set to Single track, if all the objects to be edited are on one track or Multi track edit mode if you have already placed objects on other tracks before you start cutting clips - see the tutorials listed below. Both these modes close the gap as you cut clips.
The difference between the 2 modes is Single track only moves objects on the track you are editing on, Multi track mode moves all objects on other tracks if they are at or after the edit.

Can you right click on the timeline on a place where there is no clips, in the drop down there is Find and close gaps,
Hi, it will work with objects on the lower tracks but it doesn't close the gap where there is an object below, it doesn't seem to matter which mouse mode or where you click on the timeline.
I think that you misunderstand the meaning of "gaps" in the context of MEP.
The effect did work properly; it closed the gaps - all gaps where there is nothing anywhere on any of the tracks.. The object on the second track makes it continuous, thus there is no gap. I would be very unhappy if the effect moved the objects on the right into the gap above the object on track 2. I would no longer see my object on track 1 after the one on track 2.
A gap is when there is no video or photo for a portion of the timeline.

Yep i've just been playing with this, I got my Intel driver to install so was checking the exporting 👍 i made this experiment bigger, more objects on several tracks & exported it with the gaps in the top track, normally if there was agap with nothing in the tracks below you'd get a warning message but like you say it closed all gaps in the movie as a whole, It depends on what marc-joiner's initial request is?, it says in his profile he likes go-pro cycle filming, those go-pro clips can be quite long n he's i guess just cutting/trimming his videos on the top track & wants to close the gaps
I expect the same, trimming and deleting without using mouse mode for single or multiple tracks, leaving behind a gap.
I have problems in VPX with some clips not snapping together properly in some instances, thus occasionally leaving a 1 frame gap. The command takes care of that nicely.

Yeah sometimes i get that, i use mouse mode for all tracks a lot of the time, Z & U on the keyboard closes them automatically but when dragging n snapping it can still leave a gap of a frame or two, I normally click the Take me to the gap/space that's offered on the warning msg, i like to see what the issue is & do it manually, i put an 18fr crossfade in a lot of my clips so if there's a gap it it's either in need of a fade or a clean cut,
Possibly, but not always. I will watch more carefully. One place where I regularly get a 1 frame gap is using right-click, "Insert still image at the playback marker." I never thought to include this in the bug list. It is possible that it only happens with 29.97fps and not 25fps.
I only use the Speed dialogue for the 8mm and Super8 digitized films that come in a 20fps and I want 16 and 18 fps, respectively. I haven't noticed if there is a gap.
I do use the stretch button regularly on certain video clips, especially those made using Travel Maps (Edit, Wizards, Travel Route Animation) and those with Vasco da Gama. I don't even look at the Speed dialogue for this, and I have never noticed any problems with gaps.

As per my tutorials indicated by John EB - trimming with the proper commands - T (split), Z (trim head), U (trim tail) with mouse mode for single track (8) or multiple tracks (7), Ctrl+Del to delete an object and close up the gap if in single object mouse mode (6). I have not yet mastered the Split and Trim button - just noticed that there is no shortcut.
I, too, like to see where the gap is in case closing it affects something else, like closing gaps could leave music that ended at the end, now dangling by a frame or two. Exporting does not like that.
Often, I use a 3 or 4 frame transition where I find that the cut is harsh.
Thanks all! @johnebaker's video tutorials did the trick. I am newer to Magix so did not understand how to use single track or multi track mode instead of mouse mode. Using that was magic (yes, funny guy!). I also used the split and remove start or split and remove end function that I did not know about and again it was beautiful (like tears flowing beautiful)! Editing was a dream when I understood these core functionalities. I have found it hard to find video tutorials on the Magix website for some reason but now see some on Youtube including those above that have been really helpful!!
