I am not aware that any other user has reported this problem but, in order to try and help you, please read this post and come back with FULL details of your computer, including the exact name and model number of your CPU and GPU.
Are all your drivers fully up to date, especially those for your GPU?

Running 35 parallel tracks on a laptop is probably pushing the system a bit too hard especially if you only have one drive in use. If you are running an external drive what is its read write speed please?
'Processing' in the program setup settings should be the main one connected to your nvidia 1660ti card out of the three options. Preferably all three settings should be set to nvidia 1660ti.
The audio buffer setting in Playback is going to put a lot of data into the system ram and may not be read fast enough to prevent a slowing down of playback.. How many separate parallel audio tracks are you running? Try reducing the amount of buffers to 2.
I would be interested in seeing a screenshot of your expanded complete timeline editor and a snapshot of the task manager when trying to playback the project such as these.
I reduced tracks to 4, set all 3 processing settings to nvidia 1660ti and set for 2 buffers. Can now open audio for edit and when close, viewer is still black (but does not freeze)...but when double click video track, viewer goes to nearly full screen (with video showing). When minimize large viewer it goes back to standard size with video. I think I can work with this. Thanks for your help.

@Ted-Moores Hi, just a thought, you say ' I think I can work with this.' but you've a 6 core i7 CPU & 1660 GPU, only 16GB RAM but you should be able to do what's in your pic 1920x1080 with no problem 🤔
The processor indicates it it a laptop or touch-pad of some sort which means the nvidia 1660ti is a mobile version (1660tiM) which in turn runs through the Intel HD 630 as it does not have it's own output port. I notice the complete lack of activity from the HD 630 which would normally be doing most of the 3D graphics rendering during playback.
As I have never used a laptop for video editing I don't know for sure but the lack of activity from the Intel GPU in the Task Manager graphs worries me. On my desktop machine the Intel GPU during playback would be showing more activity than the nvidia output.
. . . . . Running 35 parallel tracks on a laptop is probably pushing the system a bit too hard . . . .
This would apply if all 35 tracks were occupied - empty tracks do not use up any system resources.
The UHD 630 may not be active because there is no monitor connected to it - as a generalisation the laptop screen will be connected to the GTX 1660 and the external connector to the UHD 630 output.
Correction to output port:
If you have a spare monitor, or TV with a HDMI input, try connecting it to the external HDMI output of laptop to see if the UHD 630 becomes active when playing back the timeline or exporting.
@Former user is correct - this laptop should be able to handle FullHD 1920 x 1080 source video with ease, however there would appear to be Size, Position, Rotation, 3D distortion effects applied which is going to put some load on the system, and we do not know the resolution of the source video files
From the filename this looks like the source video is a capture from Signal - is this correct?
Download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips and post the results, see this tutorial, if you are not familiar with MediaInfo, on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip to get the full data that you can post directly into a comment.
The project setting has a field not set ie for Full HD 1920 x 1080 it should look like this:
. . . . not sure why @Ted-Moores has it set at 35? . . . .
Me neither or why the dropdown I indicated above is empty.
I too would interpret the 'discrete graphics' as meaning the 1660 Ti is driving the display directly.

@johnebaker I can recreate the empty box, if i choose one of the Video Settings options, that dropdown becomes empty, but when i close & reopen Movie settings it has auto filled that box with one of the dropdown options, I'm guessing it's just the timing of the image capture, he must have just changed the Video Settings options, not chosen a dropdown option then created the capture 🤷♂️
Just a note on the 35 track setting. I did not set. Sure don't need 35 tracks. Been relatively careful changing settings since download so as to not get too far from default until I get to know program. Wondering if worth to upgrade from 16 GB Ram to 32. Your thoughts?
Some of us are really wondering why there is no activity on the Intel HD 630. You should be seeing something, hence John's request you try to plug in a second monitor to see if it can be kicked into life.
Your ram amount at present is not even showing much more than half usage so hold off for now as we don't think that is the problem. We think if we can get to see some activity in the Intel GPU things might improve a lot more for you than adding extra ram at this point. The easiest way to do that is to plug in another monitor for now if you have one somewhere. If you don't please let us know. It will not mean having to have a monitor plugged into the machine all the time but is a test to see if improvements can be gained by having the Intel GPU show signs of life..

@CubeAce@Ted-Moores Here i've got BBC iPlayer playing on Google & a couple of tabs open, MEP playing a 4k crossfade, Taskmanager & a folder open, I don't know if it makes a difference with GPU & CPU size on RAM usage, but it's only using 12GB RAM, I don't have intel so can't compare on that.
How much of the nvidia 3090 vram is also in action? The nvidia 3090 also seems to be kicking over at 70% + in places. Your card is 236% more powerful than a 1660ti m 😂.
Ted is not showing more than half his ram in use at present and my guess would be less than 1GB of vram.
I think a headless ghost might be called for here but we need the monitor test to be sure first as John has asked for (if it is possible.)
If on the other hand it is an actual 1660 and they have vapour chambered it to cool it down and limited its voltage output a bit then it may have independent use from the Intel GPU (if we can get it to switch on) and allow the Intel HD 630 to come into play. Then it would be worth spending out on a headless ghost and give a larger performance boost and be cheaper than adding ram for now.

@CubeAce yeah a little more powerful, On a laptop do you have to turn on internal GPU in Bios like i did on my old PC after you or other's suggested on here a few yrs back?
It's already showing in Ted's task Manager. It wouldn't be if it wasn't detected by Windows. It could also be whether the nvidia card is an m model or not. At present there is no way to really tell yet.
I would save your money if you are not doing long, complex multi track UHD projects. I have never encountered problems with 16GB and never see the ram max out in Task Manager or go much over 10 to 12GB with 1hour UHD projects.
Been relatively careful changing settings since download so as to not get too far from default until I get to know program.
Resetting the "program settings to defaults" in the "File" Menu can be a good thing to do when encountering problems.
Can now open audio for edit and when close, viewer is still black (but does not freeze)..
What patch version number are you on as there was an update that fixed an issue when opening sub windows with their own preview screens.
...but when double click video track, viewer goes to nearly full screen (with video showing).
Actually - double clicking the main program preview monitor to full screen and then back again is a workaround to restore a black preview.
The Dell info seems to indicate that either GPU can output to the HDMI port or Display Port, but it does not say in the PDF manual how it decides which to use.
Also, strange that it only indicates the 8th Gen Intel processor in the adjacent column to the Intergrated GPU, whereas Ted's CPU is the 9th Gen option. Could be significant?
I too would interpret the 'discrete graphics' as meaning the 1660 Ti is driving the display directly.
"Discrete" is just a term used to describe a separate or standalone GPU as apposed to "Integrated" in the main processor...... so I would not make that assumption myself.
If the screen is powered by the nvidia card / chip? would not right clicking the screen bring up option to open the nvidia control panel?
I am trying to wrap my head around as to why there should be two GPUs if only one can be used or why MEP can't access the integrated GPU or in this instance show any sign of working.
Good point, although it does show that option when clicking on either screen but selecting it should open it only on the Nvidia connected screen.
Best is to open Windows Display Settings> Advanced Display Settings and then select the Mon1 (or 2) and click the Display Adapter Properties and it will say which GPU that screen is using.
However, from that we still could not say whether the program can utilise the other iGPU other than selecting the Intel UHD630 in the Program Settings > Device Options dropdowns and then watching GPU 0 TM graphs on Playback.
Movie Studio 2022 Suite Version 21.0.1.92 (UDP3). Peter, Intel HD 630 option is available: Program Settings, Import, Processing and Export. Currently I have the NVIDIA card set in for all 3.
I've just realized we are testing MEP 2022 and you are using MS 2022 and I'm not sure if both versions have the same patch updates yet. MS 2022 may be behind our versions of MEP 2022 as we are on patch 21.0.1.111
I don't know if that is going to change the results we are expecting.
