Burn failure - videodeluxe.log shows missing 'mc_demux_mp4_ds.ax'

Movie Edit Pro Premium 2021 (Ver 20.0.1.73) DVD 'burn' fails in Windows 10 Pro (build 19042.746) on HP 64-bit laptop; videodeluxe.log shows missing file. After viewing the 'Program Files' area, the Magix directory 'C:\Program Files\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro Premium\2021\RegModule_x64' is missing the entire folder 'mx_mpeg4_mc'. Is this a codec I will need to buy? Can I get these files from Magix.com?

2021/01/27 15:23:23 [FATAL]   [DllPool]: IMXComDllPool::MxCoCreateInstance LoadLibrary(C:/Program Files/MAGIX/Movie Edit Pro Premium/2021/RegModule_x64/mx_mpeg4_mc/mc_demux_mp4_ds.ax) failed with ERROR_MOD_NOT_FOUND
Thank-you for your help.

** Bought it! - I will try the burn once more ** Very new to video-editing! Very pleased with Movie Edit Pro!

My first movie documenting a trip to Athens and Rome; following are a few details of my path to completion.

After purchasing blank -R DVDs, everything NOW ran as expected; however, due to inexperience this conclusion evaded me for about 10 +R DVDs! I was 'guessing' about the codec, etc; actually, after installing the MPEG4 codec, all my errors were eliminated, except for the 'writing leadout and closing disc' problem resulting in the '!!! DBK BurnProject: 211 - drive not ready !!!'.

The -R solution would have avoided the codec purchase and the failed-discs; but my learning usually comes at some cost!

I am blown-away by the capability of Movie Edit Pro (and so relieved to find ALL working properly with -R)!

My movie-project contains photos, video-clips (some with audio) and a background audio-track. Ok, I am a newbie, but I am SO pleased with the results; and I haven't even scratched the surface.

All my photos and videos were captured using iPhone 6SE. Perhaps I didn't need to separate the audio to decrease it; but probably a repetitive theme in many of my 1st attempts!

Thank-YOU for taking the time to respond quickly to my forum comments. By way of completeness, I first purchased a competitors product; another 'waste' of hard-earned cash after finding it lacking, even to my newbie taste. One more time, I am completely satisfied with Movie Edit Pro. I hope to continue learning about the capability and innovate some more home-movies. If I am wrong about the +R problem, then perhaps some other problem was randomly resolved, without my awareness; regardless, all is now OK.

Best regards, -Larry

PS, the codec purchase was 'inspired' by the videodeluxe.log entry that I posted in 1st paragraph above. Also, I have installed MediaInfo and VLC. Following is 'text' view of one of the videos...

Thank you for reposting your question!

You should not need the MC (Main Concept) codec in order to burn to DVD! I know it is really quite cheap to buy - I've had it on my machine over several versions of MEP and VPX but rarely use it now - the default built-in codec is more than adequate for normal use.

So, can you tell us a little more about the project you are trying to burn to DVD? Is there a particular reason why the MC codec seems to have become "involved", because the fact you do not have it ought to mean it is not even considered for use by MEP when exporting a project to disc.

Hi

The mc_demux_mp4_ds.ax is a demultiplexer (separates the video and audio from the video stream) for MP4 video files - suggesting there is something odd about the source video files you have in the project.

Assuming the source files are all from the same recording device or software - download and install MediaInfo, analyse one of the video files being used and post the results from the Text view.

That should tell us what you are dealing with that requires the MC decoder.

Remaining burn problem when running Movie Edit Pro Premium 2021 (Ver 20.0.1.73) on Windows 10 Pro (build 19042.746) HP 64-bit laptop (info in my profile). Earlier today (Jan28), I completed a -R DVD burn as 'Use All' for encoder, without error. Later today, I completed a -R DVD burn using 'Encode All' for encoder, but the burn-sequence now ended with this error dialog:

'Burning was aborted with the following error: Internal error while processing, Drive not ready'. But when I clicked the dialog 'OK', the DVD ejected and I could play it on a DVD-player, without error. Tomorrow I will once again test 'Encode All' burning on -R DVD (Note that I am testing -RW DVD until my -R DVD shipment arrives).

@Larry-Burkholder

Hi Larry.

Good to hear you have now, at least partially, resolved your problem and that you are enjoying using MEP!

How to avoid creating multiple coasters, aka failed disc burns! Do your first test burn to DVDRW (rewritable) discs. If that is successful you know that everything is OK! If not, the disc can be re-used to test again.

However, now you know the project can be exported successfully, for the next export, at the top of the DVD burn screen there is a small dropdown menu (there's a small arrow at the right hand side). Click that arrow and you will see an option "Image Recorder". This will create, both a folder containing all the files on the DVD (which, speaking personally, I tend to delete after it is finished, unless it needs a Dual-Layer disc), along with a separate .iso file, which is a single zipped file containing all the files for the DVD burn. Using any disc burning app that includes an option to "Burn Disc Image", you can then use that single .iso file to create as many copies as you want.

HTH

Hi Larry

Is the DVD burner internal or a USB external drive?

What brand DVD disc are you suing?

Would also like to see the MediaInfo data on the source video as to why it requires the MC codec.

BTW can you put your laptop specs in your signature - it is quicker to find without leaving your post.

Thanks

Hello emmrecs,

In response,

I am using Verbatim 4x DVD-RW rewriteable disc for these burn tests.

In burn-dialog, clicking small ‘up’-arrow presents options: ‘Output as video file’, ‘Export to a mobile device’, ‘Upload to Internet’ and lastly, ‘Upload to Vimeo’.

Also in burn-dialog, clicking small ‘right’-arrow (play button) presents – nothing.

Also in burn-dialog, ‘elipsis’-… presents video file to be played when disc is inserted dialog.

I do not find ‘Image Recorder’ in any dialog of burn system (I checked subsequent dialogs), but I will continue to examine.  If ‘Image Recorder’ is found, will this ‘image’ contain the menu-template included in my burn?

Hello johnebaker,

In response,

I am using the internal DVD-burner installed on my HP ENVY laptop for these tests.  I have added the laptop specifications to my profile.

I am using Verbatim 4x DVD-RW discs for these tests, until shipment of Verbatim AZO –R DVD arrives.

The completed DVD plays properly on my TV DVD player.

I do hope this is not an intermittent problem; I will re-post as I perform additional burns.  I prefer to use this Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium 2021 for my burns and I will explore the iso burn eventually.

I will here introduce another problem which I am exploring: most of the videos in my move are ok on playback in the TV DVD player; however, several show diagonal alias lines which I wish to eliminate.

These are present on both a low-definition and a high-definition TV.

Thank-you both for your continuing support.

Best regards,

-Larry

@Larry-Burkholder

To access the Image Recorder option, follow this sequence of images, in each case pressing the highlighted or arrowed button:

The problem of those jagged lines is almost certainly due to the Interlace settings being different for those specific videos from the majority of clips you are using, or Magix is wrongly detecting them. Can you post the MediaInfo Text view data of one of the clips which display those jagged lines, i.e. not the whole video, just those actual clips?

@Larry-Burkholder

Hi

. . . . most of the videos in my move are ok on playback in the TV DVD player; however, several show diagonal alias lines which I wish to eliminate . . . .

This may relate to these 4 lines in the MediaInfo analysis you posted:

Frame rate mode                          : Variable
Frame rate                               : 29.970 (29970/1000) FPS
Minimum frame rate                       : 28.571 FPS
Maximum frame rate                       : 30.000 FPS

Many video editors including MEP do not always handle Variable frame rate (VFR) video correctly - they prefer Constant frame rate, the use of mobile devices for recording video is becoming more frequent, however it comes with its own problems when VFR is used to save on storage space, there is 2 other potential issues in that:

  1. the audio goes out of sync on rendering
  2. it may be sped up due to this line in the audio section of the analysis

    Sampling rate                            : 44.1 kHz

for the video the standard Sampling Rate is 48 kHz.

To test the source video needs to be run through a converter to ensure that the Frame rate mode is Constant and the audio is sampled at 48 kHz - Handbrake can do this using the video and audio filter settings shown below all other settings should match the source video

Please do not modify your original post to include a solution - it makes the context of the issue and thread of the topic difficult to determine what steps were taken and result for other users who have a similar issue

Post the solution eg the change of discs as a comment or or mark the answer that resolved the issue as the solution, this way the context of the original post and steps to a solution are clear.

Hello emmrecs,

Thank-you for taking time to draw me a picture – it helped! I will eventually try this method for comparison.

Referring to the jagged-lines problem – please note that there are NO jagged lines when I play this rendered video (as mp4) on my computer using VLC; however, VLC shows jagged-lines in even more of the clips when I play the DVD on my computer internal DVD-drive (computer info in my profile).

A possible contributing factor to jagged-lines is my ‘effects’ adjustment of ‘speed’; this was done to minimize my ‘jerky’ walking-motion while capturing the video.

Here is a MediaInfo Text of a clip which DOES NOT have jagged-lines:

Hello johnebaker,

Thank-you for your recommendations.

In the above MediaInfo Text, the file which displays without jagged-lines also does have Variable Frame Rate.  Also my comment above may impact/contribute the jagged-lines where I modified the clip ‘speed’ in ‘effects’ in order to minimize my ‘jerky’ video-pan; but I believe BOTH (with and without jagged-lines) of the MediaInfo clips above have this ‘speed’ treatment.

I will try to find a virus-free Handbrake and experiment with the ‘converter’ process.

Best regards,

-Larry

PS – I am very impressed by the ‘completeness’ of the Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium product.

Hi

. . . . I will try to find a virus-free Handbrake and experiment with the ‘converter’ process . . . .

No need to locate one, I gave you the direct link to the software creators site - you will see in my comment that the text is blue ie Handbrake - this indicates the text is a hyperlink click it and you will to the site.

. . . . the jagged-lines where I modified the clip ‘speed’ in ‘effects’ in order to minimize my ‘jerky’ video-pan . . . .

Did you also check the option Interpolate intermediate images in the Speed effect dialog - if not do so, I find this helps smooth out jerky pans.

Tip: do several different test recordings panning at various speeds - you should find that the jerkiness occurs in a small range of speeds - try to avoid these if you can, it is better to pan slower rather than faster, and the use the Speed control to adjust the pan rate - as always there are occasions when this is not possible.

Hello johnebaker,

Thank-you for the advice and tips. I have installed HandBrake and I will experiment with conversion and interpolate too. In future, I will be much more aware of my camera video capture technique!

Hello johnebaker,

I experimented with my ‘video-lines’ problem when burning a DVD and playing it on a DVD player.  The ‘Speed’ effect does not affect the ‘lines’ and I can run the video at fastest or slowest speed without seeing diagonal lines on the TV.

I found that the video-clips displaying diagonal-lines did have the ‘Vegas Video Stabilization’ effect applied (I had previously applied this effect to help reduce my jerky-walking-motion when capturing the video).  When I removed the ‘Vegas Video Stabilization’ effect, the DVD diagonal-lines disappeared!

I have burned this video to –R and –RW DVD over a dozen times, without error!

Following are a few remaining questions about Movie Edit Pro:

1.       I did check the box  “don’t show this message again” to download additional content, when  Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium 2021 starts.  But now each time I start Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium 2021, it runs the Magix installationmanager requiring admin privilege.

How can I stop running Magix installationmanager running each time Movie Edit Pro starts?

2.       I would like to print a DVD label using the Movie Edit Pro ‘Xtreme Print’ feature in the burn-dialog.  Could you let me know what type of Disc Label works well with Xtreme Print?  Is there a brand that I could buy that has been tested to print properly (not an endorsement)?

a.       The Xtreme Print appears to be a Xara lineage; can something similar (to print DVD label & cover) be found in my Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 2021 software?

3.       How can I give a thumbs-up for all the great support that you and emmrecs have graciously given?  I have found the Movie Edit Pro product and the Magix support to be the best.

Best regards,

-Larry

Hi Larry

That is odd with the Vegas stabilisation - I will have a look to see if it is reproducible if it is the it is a bug.

. . . . How can I stop running Magix installationmanager running each time Movie Edit Pro starts?       . . . .

See this solution that should solve the issue.

. . . . I would like to print a DVD label using the Movie Edit Pro ‘Xtreme Print’ feature in the burn-dialog.  Could you let me know what type of Disc Label works well with Xtreme Print?  Is there a brand that I could buy that has been tested to print properly . . . .

Unfortunately I cannot advise which to use, however you do need a proper centering press to apply them correctly.

I have used full face printable discs for many years since having a disc break up at high speed due to being out of balance and it wrecked the drive. You do need a printer that can print onto discs - I have always used Epson printers for this.

. . . . can something similar (to print DVD label & cover) be found in my Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 2021 . . . .

I do believe there are disc and box insert templates available in the Online catalog for this.

I use Paintshop Pro 2021 to create the image and Nero Cover Designer for printing both labels, and box inserts, however you should be abled to do both from within XPGD

. . . . How can I give a thumbs-up for all the great support that you and emmrecs have graciously given?  I have found the Movie Edit Pro product and the Magix support to be the best. . . . .

You just did - many thanks.

Best wishes

Thanks johnebaker,

I've had a Canon MX922 printer for years and never realized that I have a snap-out tray in the bottom of the paper drawer which can be inserted into a 'secret' drop-down to print a DVD! I will pass on the labels since they may fail. That wraps it up for me, the iso and mp4 and DVD production all went smoothly - 1st video done!

@Larry-Burkholder

Larry, if you're using a Canon printer, try Canon's CD Label Print program. I found it very intuitive and produced great-looking labels.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.
